2K Games Announces Serious Sam II

Sam "Serious" Stone Returns to PC and Xbox This Fall

New York, NY - April 20, 2005 - 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced Serious Sam II, the much-anticipated return of Sam "Serious" Stone to PC and the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft.

"Gamers have been anxiously anticipating a full sequel ever since Serious Sam: The Second Encounter was released back in 2002," said Christoph Hartmann, Senior Vice President of Publishing for 2K Games. "The frantic action and lighthearted humor of Serious Sam really struck a chord with gamers worldwide, and with a brand new engine and greatly expanded gameplay, we think fans will agree that the return of Sam has been well worth the wait."

"Our second generation Serious Engine allows us to create characters with over 100 times more detail than the last game," added Roman Ribaric, CEO of Croteam Ltd, developers of Serious Sam II. "This has allowed us to create huge, lush environments and even crazier enemies than before, without having to scale back the gameplay in any way. Gamers can rest assured that with the capabilities of our new engine, we're not only going to match the record we set with the first Serious Sam for the most enemies on screen at one time, we're going to surpass it."

Serious Sam II will be released for PC and Xbox in fall 2005, and will be showcased at 2K Games' booth at this year's E3 Expo. Look for the first details on the game in the June issue of Computer Games Magazine, featuring Serious Sam II as the cover story, on newsstands in early May.

Awesome news. Hey I love Doom3,its been a blast on my Xbox but to be honest Serious Sam is more Doom than Doom3 is. Just saying though, theyre both great games,I can't wait for this sequel.

OMG YES

they're releasing it on Xbox!

i picked up the first game last week. Even though i played both the first and second encounter on PC it was still damn good on Xbox.

I hope SS 2 is just as good.

Can't wait!

But 2K games? I hope it's good. I loved LOVED the first SS. It was addictive and fun and funny as well. The Cube half sequel was good too, but they screwed it up by making the secret levels IMPOSSIBLE to unlock, mother flubbers.

I hope this one isn't screwed up. I can't wait.

I hope there's an E3 DVD this year with a video of it. I saw a video of the engine a while ago and back then it was killer looking.

Serious Sam is my new Duke Nukem.

Yeah, that's the video I saw. It has the football guy dance for a while to a crowd cheering then shows off some vehicle physics and such.

So do we know if this is going to be another budget price game?

I liked the first one, developed by Croteam I believe, like this one. I don't think it sold very well released at a budget price giving the indication it's not well made, even though it was very good. These companies need to drive home the "value" issue with gamers. Most people still think if they spend $50, they're getting a top quality game.

Looks great, the video was impressive, I didn't know Croteam was producing their own engine! 2K needs to support this game much better than they've done in the past...It sounds like Croteam is putting together a great game, let's hope the publisher does its job. Not many people are aware how much fun playing Serious Sam can be, and I think that's because the publishers didn't promote them well. The games were critically acclaimed, they were fun as hell, but they didn't sell good.

This is shaping up to be a great year for humorous games, Psychonauts, Conker, Serious Sam, Duke Nukem...

duke nukem is for 2006...

Serious Sam imo still has one of the most impressive graphics engines given the extreme texture detail imo.. I know there weren't many fancy effects going on, but for its frantic pace, it was quite good.

The original was their own engine too

Just a question.

Who IS 2K Games? Is this the same company that made Sega's sports games? Or what? I thought the first Sam was released by Gotham Games and the second half sequel on the Cube/PS2 was Global Star? Is 2K the one releasing it now?

Just curious where 2K came from and if they used to be someone else.

Also, I do hope to God it is budget.
