I know it. You know it. He's the shit, and you don't even have to admit it. You know inside, and that's all that matters. Poor Biggie; so talented, but a scrub compared to Pac's talent. He will forever be overshadowed.

one of the greatest that is true. But the greatest rapper ever...

DOC.jpg

This man created West coast hip-hop as we knew it in the mid 90s... and he only made one album in 89...

IT'S THE DIGGY DIGGY DOC Y'ALL
PUMPING IT YES Y'ALL

Yes, Dr. Dre's first solo protege... It's a tragedy that his career was cut short by a car accident destroying his voice box.

Well what most people don't know is that after that he wrote quite a bit of efilrofzaggin (NWA) and almost all of Dre and Snoop's stuff on Dre's first solo album... These two albums are considered to be the start of West Rap that really put Cali on the map in the 90s

I thought Snoop wrote a lot of his own stuff on Chronic and also some of Dre's rhymes? D.O.C. really picked up the ball when Ice Cube left N.W.A., but you have to give Cube credit too, many accounts say he wrote just about all the lyrics on N.W.A. records prior to his leaving the group.

EDIT: I see he did write a lot of N.W.A.'s stuff and mentored Snoop, but Cube always wrote his own rhymes as well as contributing some to other members.

Man... every where I go, people have to talk about a rapper who's been dead what, 8 years now? A certain forum I frequently visit is overrun by people claiming he's still alive or some bull shit. I dont care how good a rapper he was, I dont want to ever hear his name again!

bonesquad: i agree with you. 2pac is not on my fav. list (the 2pac groupies did contribute in my taste toward him)

I might go in hell but: 2pac is overrated!!!!!!!!1

Biggy style > makaveli any time of the day IMO

All wrong.

I know I am going to catch a lot of shit on this forum for this but, fuck ya'll!

Snoop did not write Dre's stuff, nor even most of his stuff. If we look at when Snoop's skills started to drop was after DoggyStyle when Dre and the DOC (and RBX) left DeathRow. Therefore Snoop had no one left to write for him the result was:

Bumpy Knuckles is one of the most underrated mcs in hip-hop. Industry Shakedown is a true classic.

I've never been a fan of Pac or Biggie. I'm not into commercial gangsta crap.

Industry Shakedown rocked, Konexxxion was a big dissapointment for me. Personally, I'm not gonna point to one cat and say he's the greatest (though there are some pretty good suggestions being made in this threat, Chuck D, Rakim) but Pac definitly isn't. Also, the GOAT can never be an MC that's been killed during his career, since he had no time to fall off.

RE4 vs. SH4 is correct. Tupac may not be the most technically proficent rapper, but his songs have emotion and charisma. That's why Rakim and CHuck D although very important to Hip-Hop are forgotten but Tupac isn't. He was the perfect package, he was a hypocrite, an above average lyricist, had good flow but he topped off with charisma and emotion moreso than any rapper before or probably ever after him. If you asked tha average Joe on the street and asked him\her to name a rapper Tupac would be it.

Rakim would be the most important though it terms of skills etc.

BTW Nas is my favourite though. Greatest != favourite.

No, Tupac isn't forgotten 'cause he scored bigger hits in the mainstream. Plus his ass got shot and that was all over the media, he always pops up when people are talking about rap and violence and he's got an army of dickriders that features enough people to take over Los Angeles and name it Pacville. You're not the GOAT because everybody knows you...

Biggie got his ass shot. So did Big L. If Nas, Eminem or Jay-Z got shot they wouldn't still be as big as him. And the last two have had their share of hits in the Top 40. As if people weren't rocking to Rakim and Chuck D when they were young and fresh.

Less people were listening to 'Kim and Mistachuck than Pac. Biggie never scored hits as big as Pac and got killed after Pac, the hype was already over. Big L was just coming out of the underground when he got killed. Eminem is already beating Pac as the most talked about rapper in the mainstream, especially among white folks. If he got shot it would be way bigger than Pac, believe me.

IMO atleast half or so of Eminem's fans are just pop fans that will forget about 'rap' as soon as the next thing comes along.
That's true. But you say Pac is the greatest because more people now about him and that's just plain silly.

Still a dumb argument. A lot of people watch Fox News, does that make them the best news show around? A lot of people buy EA games, does that mean that they're the best? Being the best is not decided by sales.

I respect innovators, but they don't get extra points from me when I determine the greatest rapper of all time. It's all about what I'm listening to on the discs, and nothing else. Indeed, it is Pac's emotion, combined with his excellent flow, that puts him over the top. I'm not from the projects or anything like that, but when I listen to Pac, he really gets me to relate to him. I can see where he's coming from, see his internal struggles and feel for him. What do you call an album that connects on such a level? A masterpiece. And Pac did this consistently.

Pac sold to a different audience than Eminem. Pac was popular, but the crowd buying his albums weren't the kind who also bought, say, New Kids on the side. They weren't listening to him because he was popular, rather he was popular because he was so good.

Okay say if they are comparing Tupac to the best of commercial Hip-Hop today (Eminem, Jay-Z, Nas - in some people's Top 5 lists) he still has songs that compete with the best of them. Tupac as I said before was not the greatest skill wise but as a package he was and still probably will be.

Pac was also about guns bitches 'n' weed, real fucking struggle right there. Pac wasn't constantly doing what you're saying, just a couple o' tracks each album.

You have no sense of the big picture, do you?

Maybe my picture is different than yours. People are always talking 'bout Pac's sensitive songs etc but on the other end the guy is just another gangstarapper. But we can talk about this for years, but Pac is nowhere near the GOAT. There's a long list of people before him who are able to claim that title. And as I said before, no rapper that has been killed during his career is able to be the GOAT.

Rakim is not forgotten!!! He's a legend, his influence is everywhere.

Anyway, I'd have to say it's a tie between Rakim and KRS.

I'll throw in a vote for Rakim. He was consistently awesome. Tupac had flashes of brilliance, but alot of his stuff was childish thuggery. Too uneven to be called the greatest.
