Here's my plan - move all my PC and other console shit into a basement room. Make the 360 my total media solution in the living room.

Here's my question:

Will bridging it with XP Media Center edition let me do everything I want in a pleasant fashion or is it a crazy clusterfuck with the wirless and a bizarro interface? I want to play music (no brainer right?) recorded TV, movies from my PC and anything else is gravy.

I guess anyone who's used the Xbox media extender might have an idea as to how it works in real world scenarios. What are typical problems you encounter?

You'll need a Windows Media Center PC to be able to watch TV and some other stuff on Xbox 360. For simple video/music usage a plugin for windows media player will be enough.
Also I really doubt there will be any way to watch anything except videos encoded with official MS codecs (WMV9/MP43?), unless there is some way to have the PC send them other the network reencoded in realtime with a fast and mostly lossless codec (like VLC does)

For this Xbox 360 will have to be hacked first, and the heavily watermarked X2DK to be easily available too. I'd love to see a next gen XBMC, but it will be a loooong time before this will happen.

I'd wait for XBMC. Ya I know you work for MS and modding is out of the question, but the app is already full featured. Given the power of x360, I would not be suprised to see it playing other HD video sources.

getting rid of the PC is strecthing it. Get a laptop (if you dont have own) to complement that with the x360.

I don't work for MS, and I use XBMC on my modded Xbox daily to watch fansubs. Thank you very much
