360 play and charge - no light

FlyinJ

Douchebag. Yes, me.
I got a play and charge kit, stuck the new battery pack into the back of my wireless controller, stuch the P&C cable into the back of the controller and plugged the other end into my Xbox.

It says the little light at the top of the connector is supposed to show red or green, but it shows no light when it's plugged into the powered-on 360. I can use the controller, but as soon as I unplug the P&C cable, the controller won't turn on again.

Anyone else having problems like this?

Maybe you got a bad battery pack. Did u make sure all the connections were secure and the battery was clicked in all the way?

Try hooking it up to a USB2.0 slot on your PC and see if the light comes on, if it does there might be a problem with the USB's on your X360.

Ok... I plugged it/unplugged it a few times, finally I got a red light.

It stays red for about 10 seconds, then it turns green. Then, the lights on the Xbox button in the center start flashing off and on. All four of them. When it's doing this, the start, select and xbox button don't work when I push them.

If I unplug the P&C cable then plug it back in, it does the same thing. Red, then green, then crazy flashing.

Does it work at all without the cable? You probably know this but there is a wireless button on the controller u hold down then release and on the xbox you have to hit to bind it to the console.

Yes, it works with the old battery pack in. It also works with the P&C cable plugged in.

EDIT: Ah sweet. I wiped the contacts on the back of the P&C pack and the controller where they touch. I have constant red light now and all buttons work. Guess it was dirty contacts.

WTF is wrong with the P&C kit? I thought it was one of the better accessories and priced decently. It wouldn't take long to eat through $20 worth of batteries.

That's what I've been using. Fuck the P&C kit, two rechargeable AA last a long ass time.

Exactly, I've got a bunch of rechargeable AA's, 8 being used for the 4 controllers (more for other things as well). When the batteries in the controller(s) get close to being dried up, pop in a new set and 15 minutes later the other ones are ready to go again. Just as simple as that. Play n Charge is a ripoff.

I'm paying for the convenience not swapping batteries. Well worth it to me.

Well worth it for me to use the rechargeables for more than just the X360, and the whole <10seconds it takes to swap batteries is well worth the non purchase of the ripoff PnC.

Cool. We can both be happy then.

Play and charge kit is the greatest thing ever. The rechargeable batteries last really long so I don't even have to use it that much, but when you're in the middle on an Xbox Live match and your batteries start dying unexpectedly there's nothing better than being able to plug the controller in and keep playing. I love the fact that you can shut the console off and it keeps charging the controller too. It does take pretty long to charge though since USB is a pretty weak power source. I also have to charge my Garmin GPS device through USB and it takes many hours to get a full charge.

On a related note, how the hell are you supposed to take out the batteries from a regular wireless controller battery pack? It's just so tight, it's impossible to take them out with your bare hands!

I just bought one yesterday. Is it me, or does the thing not charge when the 360 is off?

That's stupid if so.

If you plug it in while the 360 is on, then when the 360 powers down it will go into an almost-off state where it continues to charge until the controller is fully charged, then power down properly. If the 360 is fully powered down then plugging the controller in will not start charging.

What you have to do is plug in the P&C kit while the 360 is powered on. After it's plugged in, you can turn off the console. It goes into some kind of sleep/low power mode where all it does is recharge the battery. the console will fully shut down when the battery is charged.

By the way, as a certified hater of all previous wireless controllers, P&C has converted me (as long as I can ignore the price of a new fully-ready controller)...

Cool. I guess it's charging now then...

I would've gotten regular rechargeables, but in my experience with them in digital cameras, they don't last long.

Still don't understand why anyone would spend $20 on P&C kit when they can get above.

1) Takes <30 sec change batteries.

2) With P&C, controller becomes wired. That totally negate being "wireless."

P&C is more seamless IMO. I hate having to plug in the charging adapter to an outlet.

Also with rechargeable batteries, you run the risk of not having any charged when a controller dies. With P&C that can never happen.

Plus, it's not like rechargeable batteries + battery pack is much cheaper. And I can go buy recharge kit for my other controllers for $10.

Around same price. It keeps it "wireless." And, don't have to worry about batteries not charged, because I keep 4 charged at all times.

You can also use the batteries with other devices (like I do with my Logitech PS2 wireless pad).

What kills me about the Play and Charge Kit is the fact that the fucking thing doesn't work with my PC... sure, i can charge it with it connected to my PC (which is how I do it, since my PC is always on), but the cable only sends power, not information... WTF? I buy the more expensive, wireless version of the controller, drop even more money to get a battery pack (which is nice) and this thing is less compatible than the cheaper wired version... Something just ain't right about a $35cnd dollar controller working with PC's, and it's $80cnd brother not...

that's because it communicates wirelessly...

no, i realize that, but come on... send the data through there too... i mean, it's USB... and why does my PSP transfer data over USB but not charge it... money hungry suits, that's why.

my P&C kit finally decides to stop working....well the battery still works fine but the usb connector isnt...it just wont recharge the battery, not in the 360/a pc...
i'm trading in the battery to ebgames, i'm done with this crap...what a piece of junk.
