360 without HDTV? NO PROBLEM! PGR3 standard style!

I'm pretty convinced it's a filtering and/or texture resolution issue. But one way to find out for sure is to ask someone to take a screenshot with the car not moving. Maybe BlimBlim will indulge our curiousity?

Just how detailed do you think the road would look at 150+ mph ?

I don't know, I'll let you know when I play it. I know you're not going to be paying much attention, but I think it's a possible area for improvement. I don't think it could hurt. Just on the face of it, particularly in the bridge shot posted above, it looks like a game with a very bad lack of texture filterng. I know that's just a screenshot, in video (of other tracks) I've few complaints - at 600/720p at least.

Hang on a minute. At first i thought the textures were just plain shit, but now its pretty clear that its an effect of the motion blur. You can see pretty clearly in this screen;

The filtering issue is definately there i believe as things dont usually blur in front of you.

This thread should have died at Humans first post if not when Blim pointed lots of his videos are at 480p and are what you will see.

My videos are captured in 480i mode. Quite a big difference.

Sorry Blim I didn't relaise they were interlaced, even so it makes the case evn more and should prove to quite a few posters in this thread that the game looks great on SD TV.

The footage has been deinterlaced before compression of course.

I think the motion blur + the image compression is screwing with people's perceptions. While it's clear those problems go away IRL and in motion, I'm concerned that next-gen games being optimized for the larger resolutions are going to leave SDTV users (still the majority of players) behind/dissatisfied. Personally I'm not in the market for an HDTV any time soon, so now I have to accept using my computer monitor to play next-gen games I guess...

So no one answered my question. On a "regular" TV, will games such as PGR and Madden look as good as the close up shots shown? Realistic faces, perfectly shaped footballs, etc?

No standard Tv's means less polygons, i played it on a black and white television and i swear the ball was square!!!

rly!

It'll be the exact samething, only crisper. Calm down man! It'll look great on SDTVs no problem.

The difference is closer than I thought between HD and SD. However it's really hard to appreciate the game or any HD game for that matter, in pictures. In motion and in person it'll be like night and day.

:lol

IGN wasn't joking when they said PGR3 looks like a current-gen game when played on a normal TV.

It's time for me to upgrade.

He well, looks like there is no reason for me to fire up the screen capture utility tonight :)

Please do, still. It'd be appreciated. The two pics posted above still highlight a quicker falloff in texture quality than one might like (the road texture looks great close to the camera, but moving away it seems to blur quite quickly - see the left of the car in the first pic, for example). If you could capture part of a track with a decent stretch of road, with the car not in motion, that'd be perfect! I'm curious about this now. The impact of motion blur seems hard to quantify, even for that alone it could be nice to compare.

I'm sure this was asked a million times already, but how much does the Samsung HDTV run around for and what's the specific name for that the 360 kiosk was using? Thank you.

But its low rez. ??????
Ohh...so what you're saying (based on your bitching about "when did Burnout get perfect AA?!?") is that AA and resolution is basically what sets XBOX360 games apart? Not a good thing...

If you took an N64 game and added AA, it would not match a good looking GC title...

is that AA and resolution is basically what sets XBOX360 games apart?

Stop putting words in my mouth. The comment was, it looked like a High Rez Xbox game, which to most everybody means it looks better (maybe not alot) than an xbox game (higher rez does make games look better right?)

But its not a Higher rez, its the same exact rez all xbox games have been. So, what exacty is it thats making it look better?

The enviroment is alot more detailed than previous racers. Just find a RR6 thread to see all the bitching about how the enviroments are not in the same gen as PGR3. And I can clearly see that in this lower rez, cant you?

And all those years you guys have shouted how much better the lighting in GT* is over any other racer out there (which was minor by the way), and you cant see the excellent lighting in this game which is well beyond ANY last gen racer. Res didnt make that go away either.

geez
