Dunno how much the shipping is to the US. For Canada I think the amazon.de shipping is expensive. I bought 3 plates and the shipping was around 15 euro. As for game.co.uk I haven't bought it, I was just checking and it showed 2.95 gbp. But with currency exchange, it seems like the amazon.de one is cheaper compared to game.

amazon.co.uk also has one but a bit more $$$, I don't know how much shipping is though.
 
I think I made a huge mistake:

I got the black N3DS. Some of these cover plates look better with the white model.

I want a nice cover plate for the system but it's crazy how the ones I like are already sold out. I'd like to make a cover plate by myself, any suggestions N3DS GAF?

I agree with the white one looking better on most cover plates but for me some cover plates that I like (trifoce, mm, xenoblade, boo) looks nice on the black 3ds.

As for customizing, have you tried decal girl, you can design one yourself.

My regular white new 3DS should be arriving in the mail today. In preparation I got the Kyary Pamu Pamu plate with the hidden Boos and also the Camouflage one. I'll post pictures eventually.

As far as Themes go, I highly recommend the Slow Bro on da beach. Its hilarous and the reggae tune never gets old. Special mention goes to Game & Watch. The design is nice and the music is great too.
 
Got my Majora's Mask plates delivered today. They look even nicer in real life than they do in pictures.

Nah, you picked the right one. There may be a handful of plates that look nicer on the white model (like the Smash/Ambassador ones), but (IMO, anyway) the vast majority of plates look just as good, if not even better, on the black model.
 
I'm pleasantly surprised at how nice the black based cover plates look on the white N3DS. I was a bit sad that the white was the only option but from what I've seen the black MH4U, black zelda and black xenoblade face plates actually look better imo on the white N3DS than the black. Maybe I just like the 'look it's a cover plate!' aesthetic. This is bad for me because now I will actually consider buying black face plates whereas previously I thought I was pretty safe (because I thought I would limit myself to whitish plates).
 
So even though I had preordered the Majora's Mask Faceplates early in January, Play Asia ended up screwing me out of my order. So I opted to get them on ebay even though they are drastically marked up. Should be in next week. Still keeping an eye out for the Xenoblade set to pop up on ebay

Oh sweet thanks. Ordered from Game since Amazon wouldn't ship to my address. Came out to $30 usd. Eh can't complain I guess. I'd probably pay more for it <_<

If you want to be kind of bootleg about it you could get some of the translucent plates and stick a picture underneath. Nihongo Gamer does on one of his videos near the end:

I want Bravely Second faceplates so much but I'm a bit scared they'll stuff it up....the Bravely Default theme on the JP theme shop is soooo baaaaad.

I actually like the theme. Really wish I had been in Japan last year at Jump Festa for the special Bravely Second theme they had given to attendees
 
That white monster hunter cover plate is incredible. So sad it's sold out already on Amazon france...
 
Anyone have any ideas of customizing the n3dsxl plates? like making it matte?

will there be any shops that sell these in the future? or will i have to go to a local DIY shop and get them to "customize" it for me? :D

Yeah, I just bought a matte decal.
However, yes ... you can sandpaper gloss and get rid of the glossy part. Gloss plastic is mostly 80% matte 20% gloss from what I read.
I would not suggest it personally since decals do not void your warrenty, but there is a thread about it here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=877076&highlight=sandpaper
 
Have they made any with more premium materials that don't use designs? Like, a plain wood one or maybe a higher quality plastic finish even. The default white looks nice enough but feels really cheap.

Bottom screen looks a bit ugly to be honest. It's the area a lot of themes fall down on, especially the folders. This is why mix and matching should be an option.

I try to be careful with usps. Just this week, my carrier delivered an EMS package of mine from Japan to someone else in the same zipcode... Given it was our normal carrier (who is really nice) he went back and got it for me. But it is for this reason that I generally choose fedex for my import shipping. Expensive but trustworthy

I definitely prefer FedEx. FedEx will deliver stuff to the apt. office while UPS leaves it on the front door where anyone could steal it.
Glad I live in a gated place, but still...
Even USPS doesn't leave your stuff on your door stop.
 
At this point I'm tempted to ask someone to place an orde for me for the bundle with the system (black). How mush does that translate to in USD?
