4:3 gaming needs to die...

I think games should be developed for 16x9. It's just a more natural, pleasing, cinematic ratio. I'm actually opposed to games switching between 4:3 and 16:9 as the screen ratio IS a big deal and developers should optimize for one ratio or the other.

Case in point: RE4. Widescreen on a 4:3 tv because the ratio is so important to the overall game experience.

actually i think RE4 on GCN was fillrate bound, which is why they cheated and reduced the number of pixels they had to paint. if it wasn't fillrate, they should've made an anamorphic widescreen option as well (the viewport is the same, so fillrate is the ONLY thing that is needed)

I don't see how we're equating high definition to mean 16:9. They do make and you can buy HDTV sets that are 4:3. I just picked up this set for $246. Best deal ever, if you ask me. It displays 1080i and it looks killer in my small living room.

Now granted, it's not "the future," which by many standards is 16:9 and yes, it does look as if we're moving in that direction on the home entertainment front. But I don't see what the huge deal is. If a game is created with 4:3 in mind, then you're losing absolutely nothing if you're playing it in uh, 4:3. That's how it was intended.

If a game is designed with 16:9 in mind and I own a 4:3 television, guess who won't be complaining if it's letterboxed?

I just bought my self a 26 inch HDTV for 500 bones ... and I love it ... NGC games rock on it ... so ... why all the hate?

I find it disgusting that newer Gamecube systems don't have a digital out on it. Why on earth was this removed? Does anyone know if it adds significantly to production costs? Did removing it allow them to throw in free copies of Mario Party 7/Pokemon XD/Mario Kart at no real cost? It's baffling. Now I'm stuck with these component cables from my old system. Silly Nintendo.

That's one of my favorite stories. :D It goes like this:

1. Nintendo puts digital out on Gamecube
2. And supports 480p with all Nintendo games
2. But only sells component cables on nintendo.com
3. Nintendo claims poor sales of component cables
4. Nintendo removes digital out from Gamecube

...(?)
5. Nintendo declares HD not mass-market and refuses to support it with Revolution

I always thought this was hillarious. Nintendo was like "only 1 percent use the cables" implying that people didn't want them instead of the better explanation that nobody could get them in normal retail channels

4:3 is for squares, LOL.

I hate playing 4:3 titles on my 16:9 set as much as the next guy, but games simply need to have robust support for both ratios.

Yeah. I'd love to know how many controllers, memory cards, and composite and S-video cables are sold through nintendo.com. I'm guessing "less than 1 percent". Nintendo's logic is astounding.

No. They should choose one and tailor the game to it properly. And that goes x10 for 2D games.
