Well well well, after saying for years that iPod would never be more than a dedicated music player, looks like Apple have given in to temptation!

After three years of being synonymous with "digital music player," Apple's iPod will widen its horizons and gain photo-viewing capabilities within the next 30 to 60 days, highly reliable sources tell Think Secret.

The new iPod, which will sit at the top of Apple's fourth-generation line-up, will pack Toshiba's new 60GB 1.8-inch hard drive, a 2-inch color liquid crystal display, iPhoto synchronization, audio/video-out capabilities, and will sell for $499.

The new iPod is currently in production in Asia after delays from Toshiba in delivering its new 60GB drive hampered a planned early-September ramp up. Sources confirm Toshiba started shipping the drive to Apple in mid-September and iPod manufacturer Inventec began building the new device in the last two weeks.

The new iPod's form factor will be identical to the existing 4G iPods, sources report, but will be two millimeters thicker than the current 40GB iPod and marginally heavier.

Don't know whether I like this news or not..

Oh and here's the link - http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0410photoipod.html

It's an old article (about a week old) but I haven't seen it posted here.

Already a thread

Sowwy, didn't realise. I did a search for '60GB iPod' and nothin came up, apart from that giant 'new iPods' thread that's about the now not-so-new 4th gen models.

Meh. If I wanted something like this I would of gotten the H-340 or waited for the M5.
However if there is a 'plain' 60Gb going to totally replace the 40Gb model I might decide to upload some lengthy Apple lossless tracks ;)

sort of off topic i think, but where can a poor man find an affordable Ipod?

If you are a student you'll be hard pressed to find anything cheaper (if you don't live in America) than the iPod+academic discount.

It also depends on what size you want as well.
