All cartoons, all with 8 eps on 'em (I believe) at the "Dollar Spot" in Target. YMMV may vary, of course.

Casper
Popeye
Little Lulu
Superman
Betty Boop
Tom & Jerry
Felix the Cat
The Three Stooges

$1 each! I only bought the Superman one, it has

Mad Scientist
The Mechanical Monsters
The Arctic Giant
The Bulletteers
The Magnetic Telescope
Volcano
Terror on the Midway
Billion Dollar Limited

Watched a bit of one of 'em, it's alright quality (about VHS, really) but for the price it's worth it.

actually there are two superman volumes which cover 16 episodes of the series (the only one missing is electric earthquake).

also note tom and jerry is NOT REPEAT NOT the cat and mouse duo but instead some very early van buren cartoons with trippy characters that just happen to have the same name (circa early 30's).

popeye is cool in that it has a few fleichers including the Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves two reeler (a decent copy)..

also, these are different versions of the same discs that are appearing in various dollar stores (Dollar Tree here). The difference is that the dollar stores generally stock additional titles (additional popeye, felix the cat, betty boop, etc).

anyway, good discs though if you like classic cartoons.

won't blockbuster give you a minimum of $8 on ANY dvd until November 31 or something?

HRM INTERESTING

I doubt it'd work.

Can you make a profit off these things on Ebay? My folks went to a dollar store once and bought a ton of dollar public domain movies and the counter girl told us that people would come in and buy entire boxes of them and toss 'em the Bay for like $5 each. We didn't bite but I was curious

why wouldn't it work? The little flyer they sent me said $8 minimum for ANY dvd, i didn't notice any kind of exceptions or fine print? I think i threw that away though. I'll call 'em tommorrow since i was gonna find out if they are still doing the "Extra $5 on any game" deal going on anyway.

Target's website lists two Betty Boop DVDs for $1.50 each, so hopefully both would show up in the dollar area as well. If even a couple of the toons on those discs are pre-Code, they're completely worth the cash. I'll swing by and check them out this weekend, then return with a full report.

I bought the Popeye collection and the Superman collection at Walgreens for $1.50 each...

Anyways the Popeye one has 3-4 Popeye episodes, and a few Superman and others...

They are terrible transfers, it is like a VCR copy from a terrible TV feed... it is really bad... but it is cool to see them.

I love the Superman cartoons... great special effects for the 1930's... very creative stories...

well someone has to test this Blockbuster theory out. who's going to be the first brave soul?

Alright, I'll go get one today. I'll report back with the results.

$19 = new DS.

Superman is no doubt among the best cartoon series of the era. At a swap meet I got a bootleg VHS tape that has all 17-odd episodes, including the assorted "Superman fights hapless Japanese" ones.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
I can't quite pinpoint what it is, but old cartoons creep the shit out of me. Probably all the subversive (and not so subversive) pro-war propaganda. :lol

If you guys want all the episodes from the original animated series on disc, this is what you need.

The animation quality is just stunning, and while the storys are pretty cheesey they're probably no worse then JLU's current stuff. It'd be worth picking up if for no other reason then to own a piece of animation history.

Interesting thing I read yesterday about those old Superman cartoons. Supposedly the mad scientist of the "Mad Scientist" episode and several others is basically Nikola Tesla. At least according to the blurb trying to sell a copy of the "Superman vs Tesla" VHS.

Hrm, guess there were two volumes. 16 eps in all...

1. Superman (Pilot)
2. Mechanical Monsters
3. Billion Dollar Limited
4. The Arctic Giant
5. The Bulleteers
6. The Magnetic Telescope
7. Electric Earthquake not included
8. Volcano
9. Terror on the Midway
10. Japoteurs
11. Showdown
12. Eleventh Hour
13. Destruction Inc.
14. Mummy Strikes
15. Jungle Drums
16. The Underground World
17. Secret Agent

If you go with the Bosko Video ver, you'll probably get a little better image quality, and one ep they didn't put on the Genius Entertainment DVD's. But in the end, it's $2 vs. $10. :p

Well considering I've already got them all, there's no point in getting them again. Might pick em up for my nephew though.

Check Wal-Mart! The discs are a dollar, and they actually have 25 volumes of classic cartoons, including EVERY episode of the Superman cartoon across the first three volumes.

Volume 1

1. Superman
2. The Mechanical Monsters
3. Billion Dollar Limited
4. The Arctic Giant
5. The Bulleteers
6. The Magnetic Telescope
7. Electric Earthquake

Volume 2

8. Volcano
9. Terror on the Midway
10. Japoteurs
11. Showdown
12. Eleventh Hour
13. Destruction Inc.
14. The Mummy Strikes
15. Jungle Drums

Volume 3

16. The Underground World
17. Secret Agent

Volume 3 also contains 7 episodes of Popeye, which then continue through volume 4 and volume 5. I also noticed Volume 8 was the classic Dave Fleischer Gulliver's Travels and volume 20 was Gumby. The discs at Wal-Mart are made by Digiview Productions.
