A 12-year-old boy who was reported missing in Union County Thursday night has been found safe, the Union County Sheriff's Office said Friday morning.
The search for Ethan Carter, who officials say has a "developmental delay," lasted for around 10 hours. He was missing for more than 12 hours before being found in a wooded area near his home on Avanti Drive. That's just off of Providence Road in Waxhaw.
Ethan was last seen around 6:30 p.m. Thursday and reported missing to officials around 9 p.m.
"He was just wandering around I think due to the darkness, he couldn't find his way back home. He said he heard the helicopter last night, he just couldn't find his direction back home so luckily we were able to find him this morning," Captain Cody Luke with the Union County Sheriff's Office said.
Officials classified the case as a "missing/runaway."
Canine units and CMPD's helicopter assisted in searching for Ethan. He was found shortly around 7 a.m.
Glad to hear the kid's doing alright. But this is really, really spooky. For those who don't know...
