A original Sonic exclusive for the Rev?

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Sources close to SEGA have told IGN Revolution that the developer is working on a new entry into the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise for Nintendo's next generation console. The title, purportedly developed by a "top-tier" SEGA team led by Yuji Naka, will not be a port of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game tentatively dubbed "Sonic the Hedgehog [next gen]." Instead, say insiders, it is an entirely original effort designed from the ground up to take advantage of Revolution's unique controller. No further details are available at this time.

Original Sonic, in addition to 360 and PS3?

Swweeeeeeeeeeeeet

Point in a direction for speed bursts?
"fly"- tilt control to move Sonic during jumps?

Use it to hover Tails?
I hope it isn't a 'kidde-themed' Virtual Quest type spinoff.

Also, article talks of Mario/Sonic crossover talks.

Possible hint toward Sonic in SSB3?

That's cool news. My simple guess is that you will use the revmote to jump with sonic when you flip it upwards. Probably has some other moves as well.

This isn't surprising at all. Sonic sells the most on Nintendo consoles (in terms of non-Sega platforms), and even Sega isn't that stupid as to prevent themselves from releasing a Sonic title in the entirety of the Revolution's lifespan.

The Revolution is already on its way to getting a much better start with 3rd parties, goes to show what a competent differentiation strategy will do for you.

--- why does an IGN article say that?

Sonic could certainly be interesting with the 'Revmote' ...

... but I'd be more excited for NiGHTS, or better yet, Monkey Ball!!!

Seriously, Monkey Ball could be a system-seller in my eyes. It practically was on X-box, simply for the gameplay. If the 'Revmote' is utilized really well ... it could be GotY imo.

I was wondering if Sega was going to put Sonic on Rev. Considering how well Sonic did on GC, it didn't make much sense for the series to go PS3/X360 exclusive. Can't say that I see any way to use the remote with Sonic, though, except for some interesting bonus stages like #1's spinning mazes and #2's half-pipe.

The Big N's own Shigeru Miyamoto even entertained the idea of a mascot cross-over, in which Sonic could partner or square off against stars including Mario or Luigi. It is, therefore, not surprising that SEGA would continue to throw extra support Nintendo's way.

When did Miyamoto said that?

Speaking of NiGHTS, I wonder if Sega would consider the possibility of releasing the original game on the Virtual Console, maybe even with Revolution-specific controls as an option? That should satisfy fans until a proper sequel is hopefully developed and released.

Would love to see it, but Saturn emulation would be the main obstacle there. It's improved a lot, but a Revolution specific emulator might be more effort than it's worth.

They'd also have to support compressed CD-audio really to make the downloads and storage of the games viable.

How big is Nights? I would rather have it as a bonus disc for Nights 2.

Oh and give me Burning Rangers 2!!!

I'd imagine they'd just remake it instead of doing that. They've got alot of money they could make off that instead of putting it up for a low cost.

Can't personally see how the revmote could be implemented for a Sonic game in any beneficial way. Sonic Riders perhaps, but not mainstream Sonic. The touch screen for instance wasn't implemented into Sonic Rush main gameplay at all. Also, no offence but Sonic Team could barely create a even half decent effort this gen with... Sonic Heroes, and now theyre making 2 different Sonic games? dear oh dear!

Nevertheless, NiGHTS Revolution and Jet Set Radio Revolution would result in insta-revolution purchase from me. Which almost pains me to say! But Sega doesnt make good games design decisions anymore, so oh well!

Nights would fit perfectly with the Revolution, and I'm sure Sega realizes that. But, that doesn't mean it'll happen. -_-

This is good news though. I also can't help but wonder if part of this decision comes down to the fact that the Revolution might not be powerful to run the next gen Sonic (360/PS3). Hmmm.

Sonic news just isn't exciting. I didn't like a single Sonic title on the GameCube and I despise Sonic Rush. This coming from a guy who loved 2D sonic titles.

Is Sonic Team USA in charge of the PS3/360 versions?

If so, then I've probably got more faith in the Revolution version :)

The PS3/360 version is suppose to be the 15th Anniversary version of Sonic. It's the first Sonic 3D not directed by Iizuka. Naka said they're calling it "Sonic the Hedgehog" in honor of the Genesis games, so i'd think they wouldn't want to screw it up.

Why the Sonic Heroes hate? I thought it was a decent sequel. The casino/pinball levels were a blast.

Well that sounds better, the 3D games need a rethink.

So can we expect Sega to do a Sega Superstars port for the rev remote?

IT HAS EVERYTHING SEGA YOU COULD EVER WANT

Sonic Heroes, past the very first level, was one of the greatest disappointments in the history of gaming for me. Then came Shadow the Hedgehog and rewrote the rulebook of disappointment. To say the game felt broken was an understatement, the plot was the worst in a game ever, and... look, it was just bad.

These next gen Sonic games are going to have to REALLY go back to their Mega Drive routes this time to impress me, rather than the same ol' PR bullshit thats rolled out to try and bring back old fans each time. But then who cares, parents will still buy it at Christmas time so Sega doesnt even have to really try anymore anyway! Hurrah!

Actually, I haven't purchased a single Sonic game this gen besides handhled ones.

Heeey, maybe the'll bring back the spirit of Sonic this time around... yea...

Given Sonic Team's recent non PSO games, do you really want that?
How recent? A lot of the Sonic Team stuff isn't from their Japanese studio. Billy Hatcher I think was, and that was pretty damn good.

Such a decision is REALLY making me question the porting ability of 360/PS3 games to Rev. But I guess it's better that a completely original and exclusive game is made for it, I guess. This also would make sure that Rev exclusives STAY exclusive.

Also, didn't want to make another thread on it, but IGN put some of their own photoshops of the Virtual console interface up. They look pretty slick. Much better than the ones that Zanthus made.

They're just trying to get hits for their useless site.

Okay, IGN is seriously retarded (unless they are hinting at some sort of midnight update, and even then, this is a pretty stupid way of doing so).

There are two, you click it it says something like "Your almost there" or whatever.
