Can you play Halo 2 online with 4 people on one console? I heard this from someone, so im just wonderin. I'm pretty sure you can't play the ranked matches, but otherwise, could you do this?

Yes. just not in ranked matches.

You can play custom games, or team training/rumble training

Yes. If each person has their own XBox Live account, you have full access to bring up to four people into ranked matchmaking and each person can use a voice headset. If you just have one account, you can bring your guests into the the training matchmaking playlists.

Most Microsoft published games will let you bring at least two people into Live in this way. Some of the Ubisoft ones will as well (Ghost Recon 2 in particular).

If each player has their own XBox Live account, then there are no limitations. Each person signs in and you can do any matchmaking playlists that you want, and each controller can then use a voice headset.

My best friend and his wife both have their own separate XBox Live accounts. They log into the same XBox on the same tv and we've been doing team slayer, team skirmish, big team, team preview, etc, since the beginning.

Yeah, I guess since guests can't really accurately generate a matchmaking experience level and they're more likely to be beginners, letting them into ranked games kind of screws with the balancing system somewhat. And the voice chat allowance is so each speaker has an actual gamer tag I can report when they call me a nigger/faggot/bitch/canadian.

It's treated the same as a party. You can bring 2 player split screen into the "2 on 2" playlist and bring 4 player split screen into small team and large team. You can't bring multiple players into a FFA game.
