SAN FRANCISCO, July 28 (Reuters) - Activision Inc. (ATVI.O: Quote, Profile, Research) , the second-biggest video game publisher, posted on Thursday a smaller-than-expected loss and raised its full-year outlook, boosting its stock by 2 percent.
The maker of the "Tony Hawk" and "Spider-Man" game titles, had a net loss of $3.6 million, or 2 cents a share, compared with a year-ago net profit of $12.0 million, or 6 cents a share.
Revenue rose to $241.1 million from $211.3 million.
The results exceeded analysts' average estimate of a loss, before items, of 3 cents per share on revenue of $204.3 million, according to Reuters Estimates.
Activision also boosted its fiscal 2006 forecast to $1.47 billion in net revenues and earnings of 69 cents per share. The company in May had estimated full-year net revenue of $1.43 billion and earnings of 68 cents a share.
Analysts' average target was for fiscal 2006 net revenue of $1.45 billion and earnings of 70 cents a share before items.
Shares of Activision rose to $19.35 in after-hours trade on Inet from its Nasdaq close of $18.97.
