Starting on November 11 (and seemingly weekly every Thursday from then on), the Weekend Block is going to take over. All the shows that had brand new episodes on the weekends will have those episodes repeated on Thursday night between midnight and 2 am.

The schedule for the November 11 Premiere Repeat block is Squidbillies, Full Metal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and Super Milk-Chan Show.

So no more worrying about missing an episode and not seeing it repeated for months. Miss it on Saturday night, get a second chance on Thursday night. Not a bad idea, really.

Oh yeah, and starting on November 6, Inuyasha goes back into reruns on Saturday nights at 1 am, bumping Bebop up to 1:30 am, and shoving Trigun off the lineup. And apparently Wolf's Rain moves to the weeknight lineup on November 8 at 1:00 (bye bye Case Closed).

And that's the [adult swim] news update for today.

Dead

well not really...yet
Hoping Fullmetal Alchemist isnt completely raped in the dub and isnt cut too much ;(

Oh, Lupin is also getting the axe. Witch Hunter Robin will fill in its timeslot starting November 8.

So it looks like the "old school anime" (who decided Conan is "old school" anyway?) block from 1 to 2 is being replaced with the "slow-paced and depressing anime" block. :D

Bleh. Don't most people say Witch Hunter Robin picks up closer to the end, though? I watched the first half or so of the series, but it hadn't hooked me enough to bother with the rest.

Yeah, once the story starts (basically the whole sceond half of the series), the show does get MUCH better. Still not the greatest show nor does it ever get fast-paced, but it does get much better.

To be honest, I don't really mind them taking Lupin off that much. It has been on for several months now, and it's not as if they show all that many episodes of it. Maybe if they started a new season, but it is time to give Lupin a little break so I can get all excited about it again.

Well, Case Closed is into repeats anyway, so it makes sense for them to lay off it until there are enough new dubbed episodes to show. Same with Lupin, of course. Since I missed WHR the first time(s) it aired due to a new job in a new city (which required me to live in a hotel for a few weeks), I've got no real problem with this.

I don't really need Inuyasha or Cowboy repeats, but I guess there isn't much to do about that.

Too bad I missed Gundam Seed and Wolf's Rain. I expect they'll show up again eventually, though.

Honestly, the only bad part about this is losing the Lupin T&A promos.

Wolf's Rain starts over again on November 8 at 1 am. It'll be nightly, Monday-Wednesday (I guess).

WTF? No more new InuYasha? Adult Swim fucking owes me after that WEAK movie they played in substitute for InuYasha just now.

Fuck Adult Swim. It isn't like there is a dearth of nonformatted InuYasha episodes.

December.

Besides, the show you're getting instead (Full Metal Alchemist) is infinitely superior to Inuyasha. So stop crying, cause Inuyasha is still going to be on practically everyday.

I've seen quite a bit of the dub already (connections, baby!). IMO it is decidedly UN-raped. As long as you don't simply just hate dubs, you'll find a lot to like about it. Cuts, who knows. We'll see come the 6th.

Everybody better watch FMA though -- it's a *great* show.

So was that Read or Die the OVA series? I only caught the first 3 parts of it last night before falling asleep but it looked rather promising. I definitely dig the concept.

Yeah. They showed the entire OVA last night.

And sweet Jesus the voices in that FMA clip are really terrible. Alphonse is pretty spot on, though, though his delivery isn't the greatest. Ed is going to take A LOT of getting used to.

That said, Ed's VA doesn't sound very good for when he's serious, but he might work well for his crazed "WHO ARE YOU CALLING A BEAN SO SMALL YOU NEED A MICROSCOPE TO BE ABLE TO SEE IT?!" fits.

So you think FMA will be very edited or will they have the guts to keep it for the most part the same? I'm really excited about that. I seen a few episodes but really didnt have time to get into another series. Also, not being attached to their voices is good news. I remember that killed me with Trigun because his japanese voice was amazing. The contrast between serious and joking was fantastic. The dub was real flimsy. That was one of the harsher changes I've had to hear for anime though. I'm sure I'll never be able to watch Samurai Champloo in english ever also :)

They played all of ROD last night? Dang...I just watched through the first theme song (love that song). Any chance on Adult Swim picking up the RoD TV series? I watched the first 10 or so episodes a long time ago, and it was getting kinda interesting. I don't really want to buy the series on DVD....

edit: also, what is FMA about?

I imagine that if they edit anything it will just be toning down the large amounts of blood that you get from time to time. But even that might stay. Adult Swim has gotten more and more lax about what is and isn't acceptable over time. I suspect it should remain virtually untouched.

Anyway, here's ANN's synopsis of Full Metal Alchemist:

After losing their mother, Alphonse and Edward Elric attempt to bring her back using the forbidden science of human alchemy. However, alchemy operates on the theory of equivalent trade, and breaking the human alchemy taboo carries a heavy price. Ed loses his leg, and Al loses his life. Ed is able to seal Al’s soul inside of a huge suit of armor, at the cost of his arm. Years later, Ed (now with two mechanical limbs) and Al (still trapped in the armor) leave their childhood home, each brother concerned with the other’s happiness. They are searching for any information on the fabled Philosopher’s stone, hoping it will allow them to regain their old bodies. Ed, who has a natural talent and skill for alchemy, soon becomes nationally certified. He is soon known everywhere as the "Fullmetal Alchemist."

Anyway, I offer one caveat about FMA for the newbies. FMA starts off strong with two very strong episodes to introduce the show. Then it goes in the past and spends the next several episodes with what you might call villains of the week. It does seemingly meander a little bit, but actually almost all of those stories in the past are very important and come back to influence the present in a big way. So stick with it through those episodes. Episode 7 is the first sign of brilliance and once you hit the teens, the show really takes off big time and never slows down for the rest of the 51 episode run.

The other thing about FMA is that it is HIGHLY unpredictable. It will surprise you. Constantly.

Characters:

EDWARD ELRIC
fma_lg_10.jpg

The Full Metal Alchemist. Pictured above at 15 years of age, he is the elder of the Elric Brothers. Hot-tempered and highly sensitive about his height, Ed lost an arm and a leg trying to transmute his mother. With new artificial limbs called "automail," Ed sets out to become a State Alchemist to further his quest to find the Philosopher's Stone--the legendary stone that allows alchemists to defy the normal laws of alchemy. His purpose: to undo his and his brother's sins and recover that which they had lost.

ALPHONSE ELRIC
fma0110.jpg

The younger of the Elric siblings, Alphonse is a walking suit of armor that houses his now detached soul. Because of his imposing appearance, Al is often mistaken for the Full Metal Alchemist. He is extremely loyal to his brother but somewhat naive and pure-hearted. Though not a famous State Alchemist like his brother, Alphonse is still an extremely talented alchemist in his own right. Together with his brother, he searches for the Philosopher's Stone in the hopes that he can restore his beloved brother's lost limbs.

WINRY ROCKBELL
fma0903.jpg

Childhood friend of the Elrics. She is a talented young engineer who thinks of tools the way most girls her age think of clothes. She is also Edward's automail mechanic and is more than willing to give Ed a scolding for his frequently reckless behavior.

ROY MUSTANG
fma1320.png

The Flame Alchemist. Colonel Mustang is an officer in the military and is highly ambitious in his quest to climb the military ladder. Mustang is the Full Metal Alchemist's superior officer and is perhaps the Elrics' closest ally in the military. That said, Edward would like nothing more than to punch him in the face.

MAES HUGHES
fma0529.jpg

A ranking officer in the Investigation Department of the military, Hughes is not an alchemist himself but a good friend of both the Flame and Full Metal Alchemists. Proud of his young daughter to a definite fault, Hughes' good nature and strong will make him an instantly likeable guy. A talented investigator, Hughes is a critical source of information for both the Elrics and Roy Mustang. When forced into combat, Hughes is highly skilled with small throwing knives.

LUST
fma0215.jpg

A mysterious woman in black. Her motives are uncertain, her methods decidedly devious, Lust will cross paths with the Full Metal Alchemist on many occasions. It seems she is after the Philosopher's Stone, as well, but her purpose and identity are both a mystery.

GLUTTONY
fma3217.png

Mysterious rotund man. Lust's right hand man, Gluttony has an insatiable appetite and seems willing, and able, to eat anything he pleases.

So watch Full Metal Alchemist.......
