Advent Rising - another Majesco hit???

Honestly, I don't know a lot about this game... Sci-Fi setting, Orson Scott Card heavily involved, Majesco publishing. That's the extent of my knowledge.

But just knowing that has made me "want to believe". Majesco certainly delivered with Phantom Dust and Psychonauts... but they were merely picking up MS's table scraps. Orson Scott Card can certainly write a good book... but will it translate well in a video game.

Then, I see this huge marketing campaign. They are going to show the trailer before every Episode III movie. Wow! That must have cost them some bucks. Then, they are going to give away a million bucks (and other prizes) to Xbox Live subscribers who find hidden objects in the weekly downloadable content (over six weeks).

I'm not a bookie, but I figure the odds are pretty good that the number of XBL subscribers divided by the number of AR owners = a better than average chance at scoring something good.

Needless to say... I'm leaning towards the "buy-it" category. Anyone else buying this game?

Here's the official site if anyone wants to view any of the details above... plus they have the E32005 trailer on the site.

Thankfully Majecso has the GBA video market cornered. That way they can afford all the console bombs they have dropped so far.

Bomb is a relative term... when you pick up Phantom Dust and Psychonauts for pennies on the dollar and sell 50K copies each, then I think that is pretty damn good.

However, spending millions on promoting Advent Rising is probably not a good idea.

I hope this in jest. If you think Majesco acquired Psychonauts for "pennies on the dollar", your definition of the dollar must be "pennies".

pennies on the dollar seems accurate... MS spent 3 years and I'm guessing 6-7 million on Double Fine. I bet that Majesco secured the rights for well under a million and probably got a break on Royalty fees.

If they sell 50K copies and brought home $35 per copy, Majesco would be getting 1.75 million. Almost doubling there money.

of course I have no data to back up any of this... just a rough guess on my part.
