It's rather odd i haven't seen this news bit on any sites, but the Beyond Good & Evil team (headed by famed creator Michel Ancel) will be collaborating with Peter Jackson and Wingnut Films to produce a King Kong game.

"...Ubisoft is enabling me to help shape the kind of gaming experience that i will be proud to associate with this new version of King Kong..." (Peter Jackson)

Hope he doesn't throw any barrels:()

But yeah, that's Ancel's next deal. You gotta figure a big movie license would do way better than a BG&E sequel.

It kinda saddens me to see Ancel "demoted" to doing a licensed game after the commercial failure of BG&E. Still, the fact that he's working on it gets me excited about it.
 
I'm having trouble seeing any good coming of this. Ancel's games get by on unique style, atmosphere, characters and so on. The actual gameplay is mediocre at best.

I think that spread because of a GIANT misinterpretation. What Ancel wanted was to make a trilogy out of this story.


Unfortunately, since you losers didn't bother checking out this title, we are only stuck with a cliffhanger.

Hey man, I bought it first day for fifty bucks. It dropped to twenty a few weeks later and I bought a few copies for friends so no need to hate me. :lol
I would prefer it if Ancel were to work on a BG&E sequel. As somebody posted before, his games are all about his own atmosphere, characters and settings, but having something like King Kong forced onto him seems rather sad. Hopefully he is able to put his own spin on it. I wonder if this was his decision, or somebody from the upper echelon of Ubisoft.

I wouldn't describe BG&E and Rayman 2's gameplay as mediocre. It's above average at the very least, and probably better.

Anyway, glad he's resurfacing at all.
 
Without spending too much effort (I'm sleepy), I think that mediocre is far too strong a word here. BG&E plays nearly as well as the 3D Zelda titles (control was worse, combat was overly simplistic), and Rayman 2 is a very solid 3D platformer (despite a bit of crazy French character and level design).

Those are the only two Ancel games I've played so far, but they were both quite good.

You know, the people replying or reading this thread are probably the ones who actually bought the game. I bought BG&E first for my cube, then one for my X-Box as soon as i got the system.
 
And I hope they realize that.

As far as comparing it to Wind Waker goes.
BG&E story > WW's story
WW's gameplay > BG&E's gameplay

The word you are thinking of is contradicts, and no, his second sentence does not contradict his first one. You can easily say that Ico is far from mediocre, but is highly overrated. They do not contradict each other. Two contradictory sentences would be, BG&E is far from mediocre, but it does suck. <-----Not true though.

That is not contradictory either, however. Game may be far from mediocre by being very good or very bad. To create a contradiction you would need to say BG&E is far from mediocre, however it is mediocre.

Yeah, I noticed that. I was trying to give Andy a basic sentence. Far from mediocre can be either positive or negative and can be translated either way. It is rather ambiguous.
