While I believe it and they probably did use AI to write their apologies, I don't get why "sincerely apologize" is some kind of red flag or indicator at all; I'm pretty sure I would have used exactly those words as a student, it's probably the most common phrasing possible for this kind of letter.

On one hand, they told us in school we wouldn't always have a calculator in our pocket and now we do.

On the other hand, students offloading EVERYTHING to AI feels like it could cause a real problem a generation from now. We are seeing firsthand in Dubai that AWS data centers are not as secure as we thought and all it takes is one drone attack to knock one out for a week. Imagine a war situation where someone knocks out some or all of your data centers and shuts down global commerce and AI use.
