To everyone who has played the game and become a member of our fanbase and the Remedy community, no matter when you joined us or how long you’ve been a fan.

Work on Alan Wake 2 has not stopped since release. We’ve been working on the two expansions, Night Springs and The Lake House, but we have also been gathering your feedback and working on changes and improvements to the game based on that feedback. We’ve gathered those changes into the Anniversary Update, called that because well, it’s being released close to the anniversary of the original release of Alan Wake 2.

All players will be able to download the Anniversary Update for free, and it contains our biggest addition to quality of life and accessibility options to the game to date. The features we’ve included are those that have been frequently requested by the community.

First, one of the most requested options included in the Anniversary Update is the ability to invert the X (horizontal) axis on mouse and controller, and not just the Y (vertical) axis. Inverting either axis can be a matter of preference, but for a lot of players it also presents a usability and accessibility issue.

PlayStation players can look forward to some improvements we’ve made for the DualSense controller. With the Anniversary Update, Alan Wake 2 will have gyro aiming (motion controls) support. You can turn the motion sensor function on and off, as well as tweak horizontal and vertical sensitivity, set gyro space, and choose whether your pitch, yaw, and roll directions are standard or inverted.

Until now, Alan Wake 2 only had haptics support for weapons, but we’re happy to say that the team has been working hard to improve and refine haptics on the DualSense. From now on, haptics will also work with healing items and throwables.

With the Anniversary Update, Alan Wake 2 will get the Gameplay Assist menu, which you can find in the gameplay options. It contains, among others, the following toggles:
  • Quick turn
  • Auto complete QTE
  • Button tapping to single tap
  • Weapon charging with taps
  • Healing items with taps
  • Lightshifter with taps
  • Player invulnerability
  • Player immortality
  • One shot kill
  • Infinite ammo
  • Infinite flashlight batteries

Not sure how I feel about that.

I think if it’s a ridiculous gameplay modifier like infinite ammo then trophies should be disabled. I don’t really care at all, it’s not as if I would say you’re platinum is less meaningful than mine as they’re all utterly meaningless in the grand scheme.
If it's a singleplayer game I say people should be able to do whatever the fuck they want, they want to cheat? Who cares? If it makes the game more fun to them then do it ffs. Achievements become trivial that way? Who cares? It literally does not impact no one's life in any way, why should it be a problem?
If they begin discussing the worthiness of earning achievements/platinum/etc, at that point it just becomes a dick measuring contest imo, which most sane people will rightfully ignore.

PS5 pro version:

Quality mode:
- 30fps with ray tracing (opaque and transparent)
- 4K Resolution
- Rendered 2176 x 1224p

Performance mode:
- 60 fps- Same resolution and graphic quality as PS5 quality mode.
- Rendered 1536 x 864p
- 4K Resolution

Personally I forgot I bought the deluxe edition so I'm excited to go play the last DLC pack + Lake House.

So can we finally stop the madness nonsense of 'but but RT is CPU limited because of BVH construction' repeated ad nauseum?

Remedy said:
Right after the scene has undergone an update and skinning is complete, the acceleration structure, i.e., the bounding volume hierarchy (bvh), is built asynchronously on the GPU.

God mode was fun in Control to have some intense fights and most of all to get a quicker recap of the story.

I'm also surprised that with so many accessibility features they didn't do anything with the jumpscares.

Full patch notes:

22nd October 2024

PlayStation 5 (1.200.002)
Xbox Series (1.2.0.2)
PC (1.2.2)

This “Anniversary” update contains The Lake House expansion for the Deluxe Edition owners, but also comes with many improvements for all owners of Alan Wake 2.

Global
  • Added new Gameplay Assist functions under the Options / Gameplay menu including:
    • Infinite Ammo
    • Infinite Batteries
    • Immortality
    • Several options to change holds into taps
    • (Gamepad) Sticks swap
    • (Gamepad) Alternative input for Quick turn
    • And more
  • (Deluxe Edition) added the Classic Alan Wake Outfit for our writer. Also known as the Layered One.
Improvements
  • Finetuned Flashlight Boost’s usability. Shooting should now feel better while boosting. Then again, we have worked on this game for so long
  • Words of Power are now easier to unlock as they accept a wider angle from the flashlight. This should help especially with that one Word of Power in the Oceanview hotel
  • Resources from all containers are now easier to pick up (no more less strange camera movements to grab stuff)
  • [PS5] Added support for PlayStation 5 Pro. More details here.
  • [PS5][PC] Added Optional Support for Motion Sensor (Gyro) controls while using a DualSense Controller (so that one person on Reddit who kept asking for this, hope you enjoy!)
  • [PS5][PC] Refined and additional haptics. Haptics will now trigger when using throwables and healing Items (reminder: we should have had healing items like in Final Fight. Apples. Chickens).
  • [XBox Series S] Increased internal render resolution from 1280 x 720 to 1505 x 847.
  • [Xbox Series]: Added support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) displays.
Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where while trying to shoot while recharging batteries would sometimes trigger a melee attack instead.
  • Fixed an issue where the player was getting pushed towards (instead of away) enemies upon hit if they had the flashlight equipped.
  • Fixed an issue where Case Board clues would now always trigger voice over lines.
  • Fixed some areas becoming too dark if the character automatically unequipped the flashlight.
  • [Night Springs] Fixed Achievement / Trophy for completing the episodes, that on occasion would not trigger when playing them as part of the main campaign.
  • Several other fixes and improvements.

Remedy fans! With the release of The Lake House today it marks the end of an almost 6-year journey working on Alan Wake 2. Wow, does time fly. Back at the end of 2018 when I had a call with @SamLakeRMD to discuss the possibility of coming back to Remedy to work on Alan Wake 2, I already knew there and then, that there was the potential to build something amazing and I’m really really proud of the game that we eventually released.

Thank you to our brilliant publisher @EpicPublishing for their unwavering support through these past few years; we would never have been able to develop the Alan Wake 2 that we envisaged without their trust and expertise. Thank you to everyone at @remedygames for supporting the Alan Wake 2 development team, through both the good and difficult times. Thank you to the amazing Alan Wake 2 team for building an astonishing game, with love, care and passion – the game is only as good as the team who builds it! Finally, thank YOU, all the players who have played and supported Alan Wake 2 over the past year. The amount of amazing fan art, crazy story theories, fan fiction, trailers, memes and everything in between has been such a joy to witness.

It’s been a crazy rollercoaster and I’m both happy and sad that it is now finished. But, there is always something new to get excited about, so maybe I’ll just do that.

Thank you!

finished lake house, it was alright, there was no real reason for this to be FBC themed, since there's no exploration of the FBC, it just stays a bit surface level while still being about wake and the new event.
One of the documents mentions two websites though
https://sirensociety.io/ where you can sign up for something (some kind of album promo for the singer?) and https://thishouseofdreams.blogspot.com/?n=1, which was an old ARG during the first game.

Finished the DLC, AW2 is still one of my favourite games I've played in the last 5 or so years, but this was quite mid imo. Story was ok, the Control 2 teaser was cool but overall it was way too short, I finished it in just over 2 hours and I watched every tape and read pretty much every document I found... And the health pack placement was terrible, I had to be a sweaty try hard to be able to finish the last boss since I did not have any healing items by the time I reached it...

Overall I'd still recommend the main game to everyone and anyone, but the DLC, except for the Tim Breaker one I don't really think they're worth playing through unless you absolutely adore this game.
