I can't say i like this much. It smacks of what the remaining members of the Doors did, when they got the guy from the Cult to sing lead and toured. If they want to start a new band that's fine, but calling themselves Alice in Chains is fucking shit. Too bad I can't say I have lost respect for Jerry Cantrell, due to the fact that I haven't had any for him since I heard how he treated Layne and didn't do shit to try and help him while he was killing himself.

Damageplan Singer To Front Alice In Chains

by Paul Cashmere

4 February 2005

Damageplan singer Pat Lachman will perform with the surviving members of Alice In Chains for a tsunami benefit concert in Seattle on February 18.

This will be the first time AIC's Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney and Mike Inez will play together since 1996.

AIC lead singer Layne Staley died in April 2002.

Lachman hasn't performed since the murder of Damageplan's Dimebag Darrell in December 2004.

The Seattle benefit show will also feature Krist Novoselic (Nirvana), Ann Wilson (Heart), Sir Mix-A-Lot, Chris DeGarmo (Queensryche) and members of Children of the Revolution.

The show will be held at the Premier Club in Seattle but has already sold out.

All proceeds will go to Care

Fucking bullshit. There is no Alice in Chains without Layne. His voice was what made the band in the first place. Fuck that shit.

Edit: It's cool and all that they are playing for the Tsunami relief benefit and I respect that. I still don't think they should call themselves Alice in Chains, however.

Yeh i thought you must of ment they were touring which woulda sucked, i dunno is i could hear there songs with a different singer, it would just seem wrong.

I understand that it's for a good cause, but without Layne it isn't Alice In Chains. Plain and simple. That said, if anybody wants to bootleg the live performance, let me know...

ok, ok let me rephrase.
I loved AIC back when they were recording. I have all of their albums. I dont care about them now because Layne is gone and it wouldnt be the same. I firmly believe a band is dead once the lead singer is. It didn't work for the Doors, it wont work for Queen, and it sure as hell wont work for AIC

Is this just a one time thing for the tsunami releaf concert or are they replacing him on a more permanent basis? The former isn't so bad, but the latter would be unbelievably lame.

so all you fools
who sing just like him
feel free to do so now
cuz he's dead
using, using, using
the using takes toll
isolation
just so happy to be one
sad to, sad to think
sad to think of him more
lonesome friend, we all knew
always hoped you'd pull through
no blame, no blame
no blame, it could be you
using, you can't grow old using
so sing just like him, fuckers
it won't offend him
just me
because he's dead

so here's the setlist from the show:

ALICE IN CHAINS set lists:

Acoustic w/ Pat Lachman of DAMAGEPLAN:

01. The Killer Is Me
02. No Excuses
03. Heaven Beside You
04. Brother (w/ Ann Wilson of HEART)
05. Got Me Wrong
06. Down In A Hole

Electric:

01. It Ain't Like That (w/ Lachman)
02. Again (w/ Lachman and Wes Scantlin from PUDDLE OF MUDD)
03. Would (w/ Scantlin)
04. Angry Chair (w/ Scantlin)
05. Them Bones (w/ Maynard James Keenan from TOOL and A PERFECT CIRCLE)
06. Man In The Box (w/ Keenan)
07. Rooster (w/ Lachman, Wilson, Keenan and Scantlin)

Iron Maiden? Dream Theater? AC/DC?

Truthfully, though, I agree that the Alice in Chains singer had a one-of-a-kind voice. It was good, and by good, I mean totally awesome.

goddamit, Griese!
05. Them Bones (w/ Maynard James Keenan from TOOL and A PERFECT CIRCLE)

WTF?

"I was at the 96.5 K Rock Tsunami Relief Concert last night and I was completely awed when Maynard walked out to sing a few songs ... and I have to add did a wonderful job at it. The irony is that outside before the show some guy from K Rock was interviewing people outside (we were one of the first 10 people in line for the show) and he asked me if I could have anyone sing for Layne who would my dream "replacement" be and I of course answered "Maynard from Tool". We both laughed like yeah right in a cold day in hell. So I was very surprised when my dream came true. I just wanted to let someone know that it kicked ass and I really enjoyed the whole show. I really miss Layne and Alice in Chains will very obviously never be the same now that he's gone but last night was really awesome and Maynard did him right."

fuckshittery. I want a bootleg.

Who would've thought Maynard James Keenan, the spooky singer for TOOL and A PERFECT CIRCLE, would have made a near-perfect singer for ALICE IN CHAINS? That was one of the many surprises Friday night when some of Seattle's brightest musical stars came out for a cause at Premier nightclub.

...

But it was Keenan, another surprise performer, who proved the most natural fit at replacing Staley. His twisted and braided hair flew as he prowled the stage while singing. He impressively nailed "Man in the Box" and "Them Bones".

For the last song of the night, Wilson, Keenan, Lachman and Scantlin took turns trading verses and lines during "Rooster". The "We Are The World"-style rendition of the song was the perfect ending for a magical night filled with surprises.

I think it was just for a benefit, but no way should they get back together. Layne and Jerry are AIC, without them there is no band. I hope they dont do this.

Alice in Chains is definitely the best rock band of the early 90s with all due respect to Pearl Jam. Nirvana fucking sucked compared to both of them (and Soundgarden). I dont think you can replace a guy like Layne Staley but I'd love to hear this set.

I taped Supersuckers, the first AIC set, and Heart. Then my goddam batteries died and I didn't get the 2nd set. Hopefully someone else was able to tape it and will be willing to share.

FUCK.

I really, really hope someone else releases the rest of it.

Pearl Jam fucking sucked compared to Nirvana and AIC.

Edit: actually they sucked Period. I cant believe anybody brought them up in a AIC thread.

As you get further away from that era, the more amazing it is that all those bands came from Seattle. I don't think you will see anything like that in our lifetimes again.

But what about the great influx of Orlando man-bands in the late 1990's?

One of the AiC band members came on VH1 and said they were formed Nsync style by some label and were pretty much manufactured to appeal to the grunge crowd......i hope he was joking.

Wow, this sounds pretty damn close to the real thing -- impressive stuff. Wish we could get some better recordings.

Too dumb for the internet
I appreciate the link. Not complaining, but it's impossible to tell how it really sounded in those recordings. It would have been cool to see.

By the way, if anyone wants this book http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...104-5012893-9075114?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 make me an offer via PM. I'm not gonna lie and say it's very good, cause it's not, but there is some interesting stuff there. The author basically glosses over all his flaws/addictions, and refuses to dish any inside info on the band. But, it is decent for a big AIC or Staley fan.

The file description claims it has excellent sound quality, but I can't confirm that as I'm still downloading.

And for Easy Tree, they free up member slots very often, so try to sign up tomorrow.
