Alien 3 (snes) appreciation thread

I remember that this game wasn't your typical movie licensed suck fest as we were often used too even back in the days. The graphics was top notch for snes, and the music was eerie. The title is a combined shoot em up with some strategic thinking. Your goal is of course to wipe out every alien, but in order to do that you get objectives through a computer terminal. This could be anything from sealing a bay to rescuing prisoners. Your weapons also got upgraded throughout the game. I remember Alien 3 as challenging, and you get frustrated in some of the missions.

I recommend this one if your owning a snes and haven't played it.

i remember i thought the rain was realy impressive back then. really nice game, dont think i finished it though.

I loved the Genesis version. Was it the same? Anyways the grenade laucher was the greatest weapon in that one. I can still hear the sound effect. :)

Oh yes this game is a forgotten classic.
This was one of the first console action (compared 2 Contra, Turrican etc) games i played with mission based levels. I remember it could take as long as 1 1/2hrs to clock a single mission. This was unheard of at the time. You would probably die a few times still, so you could end spending as much as 3hrs per mission.

The flame thrower is best I've seen in a game to date. Graphically it was good for the time, but the functionality as implemented in the game is still unmatched.

The other versions of the game (genesis, amiga,pc) were different and werent as good as the Snes version. Some trivia the Snes version was programmed by Nick Jones who also worked on the Earthworm Jim series, First Samurai, Wild 9, Smash TV and the NFL 2K series.

Thank you for creating this post. When I sing the praises of Aliens3, people usually think I'm nuts. This game had atmosphere up the wazoo. Great game. Great memories.

The Genesis version was the better-playing game, even if the SNES version was clearly the better-looking game, IMO.

They only share the same name, the genesis verison is completely different game to the game displayed above.

Ohh yeaaah, I remember seeing this game in a foreign gaming magazine back in the days when I had an Amiga 500 and I always kept waiting for it to hit the Amiga.. Never did..

Maybe it was for the better - I was a kid and I was scared shitless by Aliens back then :)

The genny version is the one with the crappy ending...you fight a couple of larger Aliens and that's it.

The Sega Genny and Alien3 was the first game/system I owned that was just mine. (not the families).

The 68K version (amiga and genny) was better (on amiga not full screen). It was more "fun", but at the same time it was more alien II than alien 3, the SNES version have far better alien 3 atmosphere (like the cool rain effect).

The control in the genny version is better, so is the level design. In the end it's the kind of game that was cool to play both version. It does not exist anymore. Last 2 game that did feel like that for me have been JGR and JGRF. Future is not really a sequel but more a different take on the same game.

I really liked that the Genesis version and the SNES version were both excellent games but also differen't games but with similar mechanics. I remember blowing the hell out of the Aliens with the pulse rifle and then pumping grenadees down corridors. The SNES version was pretty incredible looking.

The most I remember about the game is the fantastic music and when you died you would hear "Game over, man"!

I still own my copy of Alien3-Sega Genny. I actually played a few levels a few months ago. I also tried to play through the entire Alien trilogy for the PSX a while back, made it all the way to the last few levels before I got distracted and moved on.. Also I contastly tweak this http://www.metalalien.com I collect Alien stuff, my game room is plastered in Alien doo-dads, drawings, and so forth.... :)

Capcom's AVP (best BEU ever) owns both of these. Aliens is a pretty damn good Contra clone, though (at least, that's what I remember it being).

The Alien3 game is awesome, too... although the final boss is ridiculous. It's not an alien queen, but just some guy (he's actually called "An Unidentified Man").
