All these rolling brown outs accross dah country...

Like oil wells that can't produce during this type of weather? Like the power lines falling down from the -20 degree, 40+ mph winds and trees breaking off onto them?

Luckily we don't use wind turbines for everything!

Oil wells are just one step in oil and byproduct production, and they are spread across the world - a day of them being inoperable isn't going to do shit. If we had batteries on a large, likely impossible scale wind could work like oil wells, but we don't.

If power lines are a point of failure with immediate consequences, then having another immediate point of failure behind them just bottlenecks the process.

Seems like a negative for renewable energy if the wind turbines freeze up on you...
And your solar panels get an inch of ice, then a couple inches of snow for good measure. Hopefully events like this make a dent in millennials so they see the real world limitations of these technologies. Green/Renewable energy is great, but limited in application.

If you want stability and reliability then you go either fossil or nuclear.
Renewable is just not gonna work, especially in modern transmission systems where frequency plays a big role.

It funny that the Texas blackout and rolling brown outs were caused by all the thermal power plants and in the case of gas plants shutdown on purpose so Ercot didn't loose money buying gas at inflated wholesale prices.

The other amusing thing about the whole green energy has failed shit is that the Ercot's "frozen" wind turbines were the only thing left generating energy and they are now quickly ramping solar to fill some of the gaps.

But sure build more thermal power plants that either poison our planet or generate waste that has to be buried for tens of thousands of years, without any disaster planning.

Ask California how shutting down the old coal power plants is working for then during the summer.

Renewable energy is okay it just shouldn't be the main source of energy for the country but an additive for energy.

"As of 6 p.m., approximately 43,000 MW of generation has been forced off the system during this extreme winter weather event. Of that, 26,500 MW is thermal and nearly 17,000 MW is wind and solar."

So wind and solar, while only accounting for 15% of grid, caused 40% of the total outage according to ERCOTs own data. I don't see how you can spin that as anything other than a total failure for renewables.

There's a campaign going around on Twitter to try and blame outage on renewable energy when it's actually faults at factories causing the outage, but never let an opportunity go to waste when it comes to conspiracy theories eh?

I would love to see your sources regarding the causes of the brown-outs.

Even the tiniest of Google searches makes it pretty obvious that renewable energy has nothing to do with it.
