Altered Beast for PS2 totally thrashed

3/10 from Gamereactor.se

compliants:

- Only 6 transformations
- A prerendered sequence kicks off everytime you morph which make the framerate go nuts.
- You can learn new attacks in monsterform, but no longer than a magic-meter indicates.
- Camera sucks
- Graphics and sound

This is sad :( I loved the original Megadrive game, and spent countless hours on it.

Face it, the Genny/MD version sucked, and so does this one. Nothing to see here.
Yup, the MD version got similar shitty scores, was a similarily shitty game (different but still shitty), and was more famous for being shitty than for being an interesting game.

I played this car wreck on fire and that rating couldn't be any more spot on. I'd probably give it a -3/10 for showing me those god-awful transformation sequences every time. Do I really need to see eyeballs fall out Sega? On a related note, it's funny to see how low the polygon counts get with the LOD when there's a ton of enemies on screen. The enemies are literally like 20 polys each.

This is a fact that everyone seems to overlook.
Walk along, press a button, punch stuff, collect orbs, become a monster, get some lame power, repeat. I was blown away by AB when I first saw it in the arcade. Half an hout after opening lunch MD in the UK I was left feeling rather bored. Good sound test mode though...

I don't know if it was a shitty game. It was the first game I got with my Genesis and I remember being blown away by the graphics at the time. It is definitely not the greatest game of all time, but it is a good arcade beat up that just didn't age very well.

I was more forgiving of games back then though.

It really was a shitty game, and not just graphically. The gameplay, even in the arcade, was average.

When I finally got my Genesis, I had Space Harrier II and Thunder Force II waiting along side it. After seeing these two games, and the arcade version, I thought this port was a joke.

How is only six transformations a bad thing, though? The original didn't even have that many... and Bloody Roar has shown us that you can only do the different animal/creature shtick for so many times before it gets silly, right?

I can understand trashing the other stuff, but the number of forms makes sense to me...

i played this too - altered beast ps2 is soooooooooooooooo bad! man, i wished sony europe denied the release, like sony america.

My friend had this game on the mega drive, and he was sure it say's BLA BLA BLA
instead of POWER UP. lol. He always used to say:BLA BLA BLA.
Oh good times...
Too bad this one sucks. FUCK YOU SEGA.

So I guess I was only the only one who liked the original? That's odd, I mean this was like 15 years ago and button mashers were pretty comon.
