I'm getting pretty darn good on guitar now and i own an acoustic. I was wondering what are some great songs to learn to play?

Even though I'm not a huge fan of their music, DMB has a live CD that's all acoustic, and it's absolutely fantastic, as far as acoustic stuff goes.
I recommend #41

"For You To Notice" - Dashboard Confessional. Yes, I'm in love with the band. So what, wanna fight about it?!

That song kicks ass

Well, I suggest:

DMB songs -- any of them really. Hope you can mimic his rhythm & singing timing. Crash, What would you say, tripping billies etc.
Eric Clapton: Unplugged. I learned so much by learning these songs. Beautiful, tasty licks abound!
Classical Gas -- from 1968, Mason Williams. Gotta play it fingerstyle.
Over the Hills & Far Away (Led Zeppelin).

Bron-Yr-Aur is a fun one to play. It is in C6 tuning, I believe (CACGCE - low to high). It isn't that hard, you just have to play it fingerstyle.

Haha! 'More Than Words' is the first song most people I know learn to play. It uses similar chords as Ryan Cabrera's 'True'. Not that I'd know. ahem.. Jack Johnson songs are kinda fun to play!
But my favorite would have to be

Bright Eyes- First Day of My Life

Everyone wants to know what I'm playing when I play that. Bahahahaha! I LOVE ATTENTION

Behind Blue Eyes - The Who

Death of a Clown - The Kinks

Blackbird - The Beatles

Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton

Quicksand - David Bowie

Over the Hills and Far Away - Led Zeppelin

Pinball Wizard - The Who

Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles

Yesterday - The Beatles

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

if you want 'simple' songs with great chord structure, the Beatles (esp. from Hard Day's Night - Revolver eras)
if you're comfortable with odd tunings and finger-picking, Nick Drake
if you want to make your fingers bleed, Paco De Lucia
if you want to make your fingers bleed and utter nonsensical words, Boubacar Traoré

I could name a million. Here's a few to start:

DMB - Ants Marching, Lie In Our Graves, Satellite
Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
Nirvana - Lake of Fire
Sublime - Pool Shark, Boss DJ
Ben Harper - Burn One Down
The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work

i was gonna say the same damn thing. awesome music. if you can play tears in heaven, you can probably play 80 percent of music out there.

Pearl Jam - soon forget.

If you get one of those plastic thingys that clamp the strings and bring the chords down the guitar (technical terms....)

anyway - tru it, sounds terrific.

It's called a capo. I'd recommend getting a Kaiser Quickchange.

My one friend in HS used to make his little brother hold down the frets, human capo style. :lol
