This launch is the most impressive launch I have ever seen. The PS2's launch with the then "Next-Gen" Madden and Ridge Racer and promises of games like The Bouncer and MGS2 was weaker by comparison but nonetheless great. Christ, most everyday people bought a PS2 at launch to get a cheap DVD player that played their old PS1 games.
Yeah, I am probably hardcore compared to the every day Joe, but name one system that had more games AT LAUNCH that appealed to almost every type of gamer with almost every type of game.
Yes, he got it in 2003. I'm pointing out the fact that it has been 4 years since the system was released.bishoptl said:He's owned one since 2003. Nobody said it came out in 2003. You fail at life.
Who fails at what?. "How much better can they make the graphics? I don't believe they can make so much progress in two years"
takes a false shot at him.raYne said:Silly mainstream "gamer", the xbox didn't come out in 03... :lol

He bought his Xbox in 2003.
It is now 2005.
He can't believe that MS has made this kind of progress in the two years since he originally bought the console.
Nowhere does he state - go ahead, look - that the Xbox came out in 2003. Only that he purchased one in 2003.

Hey, you could be right. Tell you what raYne, I take it back.Hitler Stole My Potato said:I think what he's getting at is that the guy in the article doesn't believe that there could be that much of a technological leap in two years but in reality it hasn't been two years, it's been four.
Yeah that's exactly what I was talking about. I didn't think I'd actually have to explain it...Hitler Stole My Potato said:I think what he's getting at is that the guy in the article doesn't believe that there could be that much of a technological leap in two years but in reality it hasn't been two years, it's been four.
No harm done. Now get to work The Outfit's taking too long!bishoptl said:Hey, you could be right. Tell you what raYne, I take it back.

Where's the hypocrisy, exactly? You can't expect Andy to simply spot PD0 the benefit of the doubt and assume it will achieve "AAA" greatness on the performance of a game put out 4 years ago by another development team. He has to make his comments on the current state of things based on...the current state of things he's been given access to. Surprise. Whether PD0 goes on to beat the odds is an observation to be made post-launch, not pre-launch. As you point out, this perfectly consistent with the way Halo was treated and yet you portray it as hypocrisy. There's nothing wrong with the approach because there's nothing stopping Andy and others from noting any improvement that occurs between what they've seen now and what will be delivered at launch.jimbo said:Here's the hypocracy in Andy's statement and a lot of other people on this board. Halo became the AAA mass appeal title AFTER the Xbox launch. Not before. It was scrutinized just the same if not more than PDO. Both by media and gamers at large. Now that it's such a succesfull franchise everyone is acting like they were already on the Halo bandwagon before the game even came out. It was the reviews, and word of mouth, and the sales which made Halo what it is today. I wanna see Andy's thoughts of Halo when they unveiled for the original Xbox back before launch. I bet you money it was along the same lines as what he's saying about PDO.
Let me add to that: the only thing that you won't be able to do from an XP PC is stream video

The article was well written, but not balanced nor thorough. Hence, why it is mainstream.
And I am not an "Xbot". I consider myself more a "sciencebot".

But fluff sells, and idiots agree with it and never question it.

The main problem with the Xbox launch is maily its reliance on PDZ as a killer app for the system when in reality is seems to be only a competent if not average FPS.

Combine this with the article listed above, and I think it makes a more complete picture and a better article.

Absolutely.shpankey said:Is anyone else getting tired of people like this just slangin' generalizations around at will?
Well, you could figure it was either Nintendo or Sony.Edit: Well, a quick look at his post history reveals he's a huge Nintendo fan (and consequentially, a poster who is constantly making negative remarks in lots of Xbox threads). Big surprise I know.
