And what if GTA VI ends up being disappointing?

An enormous hype has been built around GTA VI. People expect it to be the biggest and best game of all time, one of the greatest entertainment products ever created. In a way, the entire industry might even depend on it.

But what happens if GTA VI doesn't live up to the expectations we've placed on it? How will the industry react to that?

The internet is going to be covered in people that got themselves over hyped and end up disappointed, raging about how shit it is for whatever reason. It doesnt take much digging to see on forums, including this one, people fantasising about what you might be able to do in it, under the guide of 'it's fun to think about' - completley forgetting that they're going to spend a year thinking about these made up features, forgetting that they fabricated the idea completley, and getting absolutley crushed when it doesnt live up to the fantasy.

Games arent perfect, but if you take them as they come, you'll enjoy them. it's a microcosm of a life lesson that'll lead to a much more enjoyable time here.

The Sun will go Nova, Seas will boil, fire will consume every living creature with a terrifying voraciusness, the whole world will cry out in incomprehensible terror, then there will be darkness.
A deafening silence..
A black void..
Nothing.

It's impossible to live up to the hype that GTA 6 has accumulated over the years. People are going to get disappointed no matter how good it is. I reckon it's gonna get a lukewarm reception like 4 got, when hype for it was through the roof after the PS2 trilogy was everybody's critical darlings.

People will move on and play something else. There was a lot of hype around Cyberpunk and Starfield. Those games came out, got brought down to earth and people moved on.

Guaranteed as soon as GTA 6 drops, there will be hordes of people coming out of the woodwork saying it's disappointing and didn't live up to expectations. It happens with all huge super hyped game. The bigger the game, the bigger the horde.

(I assume this is more like, "No, I mean, what if it's, like, REALLY disappointing? Like, what if most people agree GTA 6 objectively sucks?" But I wouldn't dignify that with an answer.)

That's fine. I've never actually finished a single GTA game. I think GTA4 was my longest played at 15 hours or so. I may get GTA6 for online and drop it in 5-10 hours like I did GTA5. Maybe I finally finish one of these. Who knows. Don't care.

it can't really disappoint me since my expectations are on the sea floor after Red Dead Redemption 2.

so if it is somewhat ok, and if it's fun to bullshit around in vice city, I'd be satisfied.

than we'll play any one of the other 14,000,605 amazing games on the market.

The industry is already in shambles at the moment. GTAVI being a hit or not is like Avatar 2 being a hit at the boxoffice. It'll spur the industry a very small bit for a very short time, but than we all move onto the next year and await the next big thing and the industry continues to see issues (just like the movie industry). The industry it self is going to collapse with or without GTAVI, and will reform again into something new (and hopefully, for awhile, better).

Why would any GTA Online lifestylers switch unless they were forced to?

If they made it the exact same game there would be no reason.

They would need to make it 10x better in every way.

For the single player, I expect it to be like RDR2: top tier graphics, top tier environments, mediocre game play, some good missions but the majority bad.

The production quality SHOULD make up for this.

It will sell well (unless the economy fully tanks before next year) but will it have players three months in?

For some reason I have a good feeling about it and I had zero hype before the leaks. That being said it is impossible for Rockstar to please everybody. There will be a number of people saying GTA V was better like people did with IV once V came out.

Honestly I don't see how it couldn't end up being disappointing. The hype is higher than it has ever been, for any game. It would really need to knock it out of the park and be almost perfect not to disappoint. I'm concerned that it might be flat out crap.

As long as its genuine(not professional reviewers scores with brownie points) 9/10 gaming community will be happy.

Another diseastrous scenario would be if both trailers proven to be fake/bullshot and we got some super downgraded version of graphics on base ps5- im not talking dynamic resolution where game is 800p in some places/heavy scenarios and 1080p in lighter/easier to run moments(ai upscaled to 1440p or w/e), im talking massive lvl of detail/lighting downgrade thats visible even on first glance by casual gamer- but ofc we all hope it doesnt happen.

I'd be surprised. But in the end it's just one videogame.

I'm looking forward to what I imagine will be a solid title. But if not, I'll move on a second or so after getting to know.

Would stay at gaf to observe the meltdown tho.

Not too worried about it since it should at least be extremely fun and still be the best game of the 2020 to 2030 only behind Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 and possibly Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake, Resident Evil 10, RE1 RE-REMAKE, WC3 Reforge, and WoW.
