It’s the nature of news entertainment. Remember when Jack Thompson was a thing so many years back? He was a nobody, but gamers made him a thing because of course they’re going to overreact to “videogame violence is poisoning the youth”. Gaming websites farmed that guy for content for a good while.
Anita Sarkeesian is another example. She was irrelevant, until gamers made her a thing. Then she was everywhere. And now she’s been forgotten because she wasn’t raking in the clicks anymore.
Andrew Tate is interesting in that there’s a bit of the gamer community that fits in the Venn diagram that is his audience. But really, he is just another Icarus. He flew too close to the sun, and now he’s proceeding to the ground. The world will eventually move on like it always does. In the meantime, it’s fun to laugh at the folks who will defend the man’s honor, for free.
