how is that even patentable?

Intellectual property needs to be protected and the patent system is working when innovations such as these as made and advanced upon. Do you think just anyone could come up with such a unique implementation? If its so obvious why hasn't every body else already done it? Stop trying to denegrate the fine work of Googles inventors, you commie.

Any rumors on when we will hear about Google's next phone?

That stuff leaked a few weeks ago. It's a smaller Galaxy Nexus or so we are lead to believe. Google is trying to corner the tablet market so I doubt they're going to put any effort into a new phone for a while.

Lame. Depending on pricing, might jump to Nokias latest offerings.

Thank you for the link and info.

I know I've been shitting on Google TV lately, but there are times when its awesome.

I'm half in the bag and wanted to switch to Fox News, all I have to is type Fox News and boom I get a choice, click, and then the cable box chances for me.

I don't remember hat channel it is, and I'm sure as hell not gonna soft through the channel listing that makes no sense by being numeric.

May have been posted already on the forum but Google released a new video recently to show off Google Maps and highlighting some of the features.

http://google-latlong.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/making-exploration-easier-for-people.html

Maps keep our spirit of adventure alive by making it easier for us to explore the world around us. That’s why today, we’re making Google Maps even better with new turn-by-turn navigation with traffic conditions, biking directions, Map Maker and new Street View imagery in more locations globally. These improvements are part of our ongoing effort to build the best map we can — one that’s comprehensive, accurate and easy for you to use.

That's better, but still like 2/3rds of Android users are at best on Gingerbread/Honeycomb. We need it to flip to where 2/3rds are on ICS or better for a shit ton of different reasons.

They're cleaning up their piecharts. Sneaky. They used to have different shades for each point update.

I don't see that gingerbread slice shrinking below 40% for at least another year, possibly two. There's too many people that are satisfied with phones that can keep on trucking with GB for at least three years.

That share is filled with people who use phones until they literally don't work anymore.

I wish they would host historical data on there too. =(

it would help if year-old phones weren't discontinued as far as updates go

It's funny though, some people don't even care about updates.

Overheard by someone with a Nexus S in regards to the JB update:

"I'm ignoring the update notification cause everything is working fine".

fixed and agreed

I know manufacturers, carriers, and android fanboys would like it if everyone bought the latest phone every couple months but things just don't work like that.

I don't think people care whether others buy a new phone every couple months or not.

devs would also love that, but i bet journalists and some other fanboys wouldn't look too fondly on that.

You guys remember all the talk about Google plastering ads all over Android, and that's how they would make it free?

Awesome.

Awesome.

They transferred the patent.

God I wish Verizon wasn't such a good carrier because it would be easier to ditch when they inevitably jump the shark and start locking phones to Bing again.

Seriously lol that hype train smashed into a wall. Give tweetlanes a shot if you want a new client.

I am using Tweetlanes, I was just wondering since we haven't heard from them for like a over a month or something.

I want to buy my wife a nexus s for her first smart phone, but I want to make sure its a model that'll update to jellybean. We purchased one for her already, but the hardware didn't match the software, the serial number was scratched out, and it wouldn't update. The whole thing just seemed shady so we sent it back.

Can anyone link me to the one I want to buy? I'll be using it on Straight Talk which offers SIM cards compatible with all the major carriers.

I'm thinking of getting a new Android phone, but I haven't quite decided which one to get. I can get a Huawei Ascend P1 or a Samsung Galaxy SII for about the same price, and I know the Ascend P1 has a slightly faster CPU, while the Galaxy SII has more built-in Flash memory. Which one would you recommend me?

get the GS2. the OMAP4 in the Ascend is a bit better on the CPU front, but the GS2 has better GPU performance, onboard storage, camera, etc...

it's 1280x720 instead of 1280x800

plus most of the cool widgets are only 4 wide anyway

There's a lot of space between apps, maybe resolution has something to do with it but I'd have thought that with the bigger screen size they may have 5 apps per-row like the first Note.

Edit: Nvm, you can have 5 by row. Seems like it's an option.

The 2.3.6 update broke the WiFi on my old Atrix 4G.

I don't trust the manufacturers with updates at all.

You don't trust not even Google? I was referring to the Nexus S. Shit happens sometimes, but I would upgrade in a heart beat my Nexus device.

Coco is just coocoo.
