Upset with wife’s online chats, man shoots computer

A Scranton, PA man who caught his wife chatting with men online decided to log her off for good early Tuesday — by gunning down her computer, police said.

Jason Griffith, 23, of 2226 Boulevard Ave., was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, simple assault, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and harassment.

Police allege Mr. Griffith fired one .40-caliber bullet into his wife’s computer tower after a 2 a.m. argument inside a bedroom on the second floor of the couple’s residence.

According to an affidavit:

After returning home early Tuesday, Mr. Griffith became angry that his wife was chatting with men on the social networking Web site MySpace.com. He first assaulted her in the kitchen and then tried to drag her upstairs.

Once upstairs, he shot the computer and fired a bullet into the floor.

No one was injured.

Officers recovered the gun, a black Springfield Armory pistol, with a loaded magazine and a round in the chamber.

Mr. Griffith was arraigned and transported to Lackawanna County Prison.

Bail was set at $50,000.

I will never get why people just don't divorce someone for some ish like this. No need for me to argue, shoot, beat up, or destroy property. If my name is on the lease/mortgage she has to get the eff out, if it isn't then i pack my ish and leave.

Yup, pretty much. Then take he/she to the cleaners in the divorce hearings. Win/win!

craziest story I ever heard was about 11 yrs ago. Some dude in MD came home and caught his wife getting her back blown out by some other guy in THEIR bed. So he naturally flips the eff out and murks the both of them. The judge gave this dude six months in jail and said he wish he didn't have to give him any time cause he knew he would have done the same ish had he been in that situation. Man was her family FURIOUS and so where the women's rights groups. In that situation I don't know man. I mean male or female, you catch your other having a romp in your effing bed that you help buy and in the house you help pay for and all that, who knows what is liable to go through your mind.

I still think I would just tell the guy to get dressed and wait outside as my wife will be out shortly to go live with him or get dropped off at a homeless shelter, which ever works for them.

I would have taken wire cutters and hacked all the cords into shreds. Most women don't know how to hook up a computer anyways.

terrorist threats? ridiculous.

That doesn't mean threatening to blow up a building or something. It means threatening terror on someone. So if he said, "Bitch I am going to kill you if you log on again," then yes he was making terroristic threats.

But not too much funny about this story as he beat her up in the kitchen, then drug her up the stairs, then pulled out a gun. Not exactly a laughing matter. Hope the scumbag gets a beatdown in jail.

How is that different from assault? (i.e. threatening a person, not actual battery)

Police in Edgewater, Maryland say they have uncovered the cause of a friday night shooting incident. Robert Preston Kersey, 34, angered by his flatmates playing their X-box loudly in the early hours stormed into their living room and fired a single gunshot into the game system, disabling it, police said.

The 9mm gunshot did not penetrate the system and did not injure anyone at the scene, police said.

I tried wearing one once, but the damn thing is much heavier than a bullet proof vest!

Not a whole lot but that happens all the time. Usually these things end up with multiple charges because many overlap.

Has he ever heard of a degaussing strip? Combined with a cd shredder it can work wonders.

You never heard "terroristic threats" tacked onto any civil cases previous to 9/11.

Tacking that term onto something like this is just downright sickening. This has absolutely nothing to do with "terrorism" and is a complete abuse of the term to make the crime seem more abhorrent.

What's next? Drug posession coined as "terroristic posession"? Jay walking referred to as "terroristic crossing"?

Your thoughts are logical and I agree. However, putting yourself in either position, there's a reason why it happened. There's a lack of communication yet strong emotion which elicited an irrational response.

Paraphrasing Chris Rock, "I wouldn't do it myself (referring to OJ), but I understand."

Wait, what? He kills 2 people and only gets 6 months in jail and is then back on the street?

Why? Isn't the definition of terrorism "the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion"?
So what is wrong with the use of the phrase terroristic threats in this case?

yup,

its a true story. It was on NPR when it happened. It is something with how the laws are in MD. I mean I GUESS I can sort of understand the temporary insane thing. I mean its just to much.

He needs to get over that $hit. I mean come on man, she is chatting up other guys and lord knows what else she has done. After that there is no trust, at least not in my mind. Besides, women out number us dudes, just go get a new one. One that wont go about chatting up strange men.

Where do you see evidence of threats to "systematically" coerce. Sounds to me like in this one instance that he is being charged for it was a one and done situation.

He may be a regular wife beater, we don't know that. We do know that he snapped once and made a threat... not multiple threats extending over a period of time.

You could argue that the act of destroying an inanimate object acts as a "warning" as to what can happen as a result of "cheating online".

That is just stupid. I would have waited until she was out of the house, shot the computer, and then taken its mouse to make it look like a hold-up gone wrong. That or create a myspace account for the PC and make a bunch of depressed entries to make it look like a suicide.
