Anime recommendations?

There’s too much out there. When I was a youngin anime was time consuming or expensive to acquire. Now there’s so much to stream and I don’t know what’s worth my time. For reference I have Netflix, Hulu, Amazon prime and I’m open to crunchyroll if needed. Thanks in advance

Too vast a medium. You'd probably have better luck saying the genres you like.

As someone going in. I'd only read things that are long running like Naruto/One Piece, as good as they are, they can be mostly filler. Luckily, that trend is dying out and we are getting "Seasons" of newer titles which allows for much better pacing.
I do think these are pretty much considered all around crowd pleasers.

Action Adventure:
Hunter X Hunter
My Hero Academia
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
Attack on Titan
RE: Zero
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Gurren Lagen
Kill La Kill
One Punch Man
Mob Psycho 100
Cowboy Beebop
Samurai Champloon

We need something to go on. A genre, like sci-fi? fantasy? fan-service? etc. If you have Netflix I would start with some older stuff, the best stuff. Cowboy Bebop and Code Geas are good starters for sci-fi. Jojo series for fantasy/modern but Im not sure I would recommend the series to fresh/non-anime watchers. You need to start with more generic but good stuff like My Hero Academia. Maybe Yuyu Hakusho or Bleach.

Mushishi.

Story of a mushishi (a human who can perceive the existence of mushi's, small supernatural creatures) traveling from place to place helping people who suffer from problems caused by mushi. Beautiful, episodic, with this sort of soothing/ethereal mood.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
My favorite is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Watch from the beginning. Binge through the first part of Stone Ocean that just got released.

You need to be more specific about your tastes and what type of stories or premises you tend to enjoy.

Otherwise you will get huge list of recommendations which you may or not enjoy watching.

Almost anything that aired in Toonami
Yu Yu Hakusho
Ronin Warriors
Gundam Wing
G Gundam
Gundam 00
Dragon ball/Z/Super
One Piece
Naruto/Shippuden
S-Cry-Ed
Wolf’s Rain
Outlaw Star
Ninja Scroll
Berserk (old one, reboot) manga better overall
Full Metal Alchemist/Brotherhood
Neon Genesis if you are depressed
Rurouni Kenshin
Tokyo Revengers
God of School
Hunter X Hunter
Gurren Lagann
Demon Slayer
Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
Deadman Wonderland
Kill la Kill
Animatrix
Jo Jo’s Bizarre Adventure

There’s a lot out there that can be enjoyable. Do sub, unless it’s been on Toonami, those are manageable. Except Naruto, those dubs suck.

If I'm even a little sleepy, this is the anime that will put me to sleep the fastest. When I'm wide-awake I do enjoy it though.

When the original series started airing I was in college and was going through some stressful days, and I started watching one episode before going to bed, and it just made me calmer, my mind sorta would relax and let me sleep easier. There's a very dreamy quality about it.

If you're up for vampire genre

Vampire Hunter D : Bloodlust
Blood The Last Vampire
Blood+
Hellsing
Jojo Bizzare Adventure Part 1&2 (the other parts are equally amazing tho but the theme shifted)

If you're just looking some best of the best (my personal favorites)

Trigun
Hunter x Hunter (newer one with Chimera Arc)
Psycho Pass
Stein Gates
FMA Brotherhood
Kimetsu no Yaiba
Jujutsu Kaisen

As well as my favourite light hearted anime : Shirobako

And I want to stress it out again , Psycho Pass Season 1 is probably my GoAT . It's mature , has an insanely smart villain , super interesting dystopia setting , badass MC and strong female lead

One Piece
Don't do it unless you know what you're getting into. I'm catching back up on it slower than when I caught up in 2006. It's a DENSE read, a lot of criticism of comics having huge speech bubbles, Oda just about gets away with it. Is it good? Yeah? But could you put time into 20 other things and reap the same enjoyment? Yeah. I will be posting in the OP thread eventually.

Also Amazon has Made in Abyss and Vinland Saga I think. Both DEFINITELY worth it.

I’ll keep it to the last ten years or so since there will be enough as it is, and mind you there’s plenty from this past decade I still need to get to, the amount of anime has been insane these last few years save for 2020 for obvious reasons.

Akudama Drive
Angel Beats
Attack on Titan (the second half of the final season begins soon)
Demon Slayer (Season 2 currently airing)
The Devil is a Part Timer (Season 2 was recently announced)
Durarara
Fruits Basket reboot
Great Pretender
Kill la Kill
Komi Can’t Communicate (currently airing)
Land of the Lustrous
The Night is Short, Walk On Girl
No Game No Life
One Punch Man Season 1 (S2 is good but done by a different studio and the animation suffers from it a lot)
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
Re:Zero Seasons 1 and 2
A Silent Voice
Space Dandy
Steins Gate
SSSS Gridman
The Tatami Galaxy
Your Name

I'm not a big anime fan and only saw 2 in the last 5-6 years. One punch Man and Demon Slayer; I enjoyed them both and recommend them but there's not that many episodes sadly and there will be a long wait for more most likely. I am however looking forward to the final arc of Bleach which will be out next year, we'll probably have an exact date in a few days at the Jump Festa event.

You can't go wrong with Hunter x Hunter (2011). The only problem with watching it first is that nothing else really makes it to that level of hype and emotional payoff. Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen if you want a taste of great modern casual anime. Attack on Titan anime is ending next year, so if you start now, you will be able to watch the whole thing from beginning to end without any large gaps.

I'll mention my more obscure favorites
Darker Than Black
Space time anomalies appear on earth and people gain super natural abilities. After abilities are used the user is compelled to perform an action, eating a flower, writing poetry. Follows an assassin for the story. Ignore the OVA and part 2

Land of the Lustrous
best 3d anime I've seen.

Soul Eater
Great up until the last two episodes. Ignore Soul Eater: Not

Birdy the Mighty: Decode
Super Human space cop( human looking alien) investigates a group on earth looking to activate a world ending weapon. Never finished but the second season is fantastic.

*shugs* I’d say it’s okay, the first 17-18 episodes or so IIRC were pretty good, as were the final 10, but the middle stuff was really underwhelming. The cast constantly getting captured got old, and the two recap episodes were terrible as they were originally supposed to be episodes exploring the main pilots’ pasts but that was cut so the main pilots never really got their motivations explored (the sequel movie fixed this somewhat). Like, okay Heero gives a speech about why he hates war, but we don’t know what led him to this point. Ironically, for all the hate she gets, I’d say Relena is better handled in terms of her character arc, we actually see all of it instead of having important details left in the dark.

Gundam 00 is far superior as the spiritual remake IMHO. It’s not without its faults, but the leads’ pasts are fully explored, we don’t have to wait way too long to see them all team up as they’re a full team from the beginning, and they were actually willing to kill off a few significant good guys which is kind of important for any Gundam that wants its “war is hell” message, whereas Wing only killed off a few parents (what?! Characters’ parents dying in a story? Whoa, way to take risks, Wing!/sarcasm) and called it a day.

I really enjoyed Erased. It's a mystery and there's kinda sorta time travel. It's a nice one season story.
Fairy Tail is pretty fun but there's 1000 episodes and you've got to be in the mood for silly nonsense most of the time.
I remember Tonya the Evil bring good. A modern dude gets reincarnated as a little girls during world war 1 and there's magic
Made in Abyss is on Amazon I think. It can get kinda fucked up... But it's pretty good
as others have said, Samurai Champloo is great
Afro Samurai is cool. Super stylish and Samuel L Jackson.

Did you cry at the bug arc ending?

The ones I like:

Sailor Moon (the original series, not Crystal or the VIZ ones, those suck)
Death Note
Cowboy Bebop
Black Butler
Gundam Wing
Goldenboy
Vampire Hunter D
Samurai Pizza Cats

When it comes to movies, Ninja Scroll is my favorite anime movie of all time, also recommend Akira (obvious classic), Ghost in the Shell, Perfect Blue, Grave of the Fireflies.

Men_in_Boxes

Snake Oil Salesman

I haven't seen it but its RT critic score, user score, and IMDB score are all pretty damn high.

It might not be anime though.

I'm a huge fan of Gundam 00. Need to get this on bluray

One Piece. It's magical.

However, I'd recommend the manga over the anime. The latter is very, very slow. Some episodes are basically five minutes of story stretched to twenty.
