Another Ebay Gaming Scam

I don't pay much attention to e-bay so it may be typical, but I can't believe that obvious scammer has a 1256 feedback score w/ 99.4% positive feedback. Then again he does have 9 negatives in the past six months, so I guess it's just the quantity he does.

The question is did he steal it from the official strategy guide or just ctrl+v from gamefaqs? The latter seems much more likely considering it involves even less effort, but he does say "this guide sells in stores for more than $19.99." :lol

one thing i find hilarious is when people leave him neutral feedback he calls them feedback abusers :lol

Ad was miss leading! I orderder a book not a computer file to down load,Scam!!!
Reply by ultimate-codes: THIS BUYER DID NOT READ HIS LISTING BEFORE BUYING,HIS PURCHASE WAS SENT TO HIM!!
Follow-up by steveng5791: This guy said he would refund my money but ripped me of then tried to report me.

This wouldn't bug me, except that it seems to me like there's clearly a lot of shilling going on. People buying and selling cheap ebooks (not these codes ones in particular, stuff like recipes), for a penny a pop just for the feedback.

Wow, he must be making a ton of money by doing this, considering how many he's been selling recently.

I noticed all those "private" transactions in his feedback as well. Blah.

"private" usually appears when the item is of a certain nature and you don't want people to know what you're buying. I used it for awhile on my auctions to try to shield people from scammers but I was losing bids so I stopped. :(

Product wasn't very good but it came nearly instantly, just as promised.
Reply by ultimate-codes: ALL MY BUYERS SAY YOUR LIEING,I ONLY SELL QUALITY ITEMS,WHY LIE LIKE THAT??

I think this hardly qualifies as a scam. His ad states that it is a word document and that he is the copyright holder. It does say that the guide sells in stores tho, which is unlikely unless his last name is brady.
A scam however it is not. I have recieved bootleg goods and I have been requested to pay for $1000 purchases with Western Union, now those were scams. Just like you i read the ad and knew what he was selling right away as he makes it fairly clear and not misleading at all really. I definately wouldnt buy from a guy with so many private transactions mind you..

Someone in this very thread didn't catch what was off. That's not misleading? All this guy's listings should be removed and his account revoked, because he's trolling for suckers.

LOW PRICE THIS GUIDE SELLS IN STORES FOR

MORE THAN $19.99

-What stores sell his guide for $20? I do have to fault the buyers for not reading carefully and noticing the sentence that says that it is a word document. However, I'm not a big fan of this sort of advertising style, where one puts misleading statements into his advertisements. The price is misleading as well. The $10 price suggests that people are actually getting a physical product, especially since he is comparing it to a $20 product that is being sold in stores.

He sells what he claims. I think the quality of the product could probably be measured by the quality of the ad. If you bid on this expecting to get a PDF of a brady games manual than yes, you'd be a sucker. He probably only gets sales from people that are hard up and cant find the answer instantly online somewhere else.

I still say this is not a scam. If he is inflating his feedback with false transactions than that is another story but hasn't been proven here.

The guide costs $18 in stores, by the way. Few, if any, standard paperback guides list for more than $20.

Basically all this guy sells is WordPad gamefaqs:

Must be a big file or something. Maybe has some ASCII drawings.
You can have images in a word pad document.

I want to see what is in this too, if he is blatantly copying a GameFAQ or the offical guide word for word.

Unless the guy wrote his own guide (Very Unlikely), this is certainly illegal.

My guess is he ripped off the IGN guides (which have images)

Not only does it say in rather large type that it is a word document, it also sates that it will be shipped to your email address. I can't imagine how inept someone would have to be to figure this was something that was gonna show up on there door step.

just as misleading as people selling PS2/Xbox360 "boxes" those accounts are often killed. I'd also like to see if they're gamefaqs, prima, brady or ign rips then someone could hang this guy.

He's even using all 1-day and 3-day listings to make sure Ebay can't remove his listings before they end. That didn't stop me from reporting several of them, though. I once got hooked into a scam that forced you to sign up for a subscription to "buy" a CD, and I just reported the listing for violations rather than paying. Ebay canceled the listing and I didn't have to pay a cent.

He has an entire store of these listings, I don't think that having them as 1-3 day listings is making him any more covert to Ebay. He has been in business for the better part of a year and if he was breaking copyright laws they would have cracked down on him by now.

True, I did get some bootleg GBA games on ebay. However.... His downloads are in Word Document whilst IGN uses PDF. It would take a shitpile of work to convert a PDF file into a text file, no? I am guessing this guy gets his guides from some non copywriten source or maybe even....du du du dah.. types them himself which is why the suck so bad. Everyone just speculates that because it is a Text Doc that it must be plagerized. Proof, people, proof.

I have been playing wayu too much PW lately.... :D

There are a few programs that can convert PDF files to DOC, they work nicely if the formatting is not too complex.

Well, I guess there would be. Hopefully IGN and other sites that offer guides protect the images with their site names spattered across them. Either way there is no proof that the guides are or are not plagiarized. I'll have to find some then since no one else seems willing/able. BRB....

Next I'd like to call Atomsk to the witness stand.....

Ebay is slowly being ruined by the get rich quick schemes and price gouging whores it is really sad. It used to be a place where you could go and find some used stuff at decent prices. However it has become so annoying weeding through all of the shit auctions I do not even bother anymore.

For example, I was searching for Xbox 360 faceplates and this one seller has his shitty "gamer graphix!1! for 360!!!" plastered all over ebay. For every one real auction I found I had to sift through 10 of this jackasses listings. It is annoying.

I like how many times he mentions the guide is "new!!" As if a word document can be used.

I don't see the problem with this. Sure its a bit misleading but he clearly says many times that its an ebook and that its not an actual guide. Those people who selll Xbox 360 "Boxes" are a lot worse. I don't see why this is thread-worthy.

Nothing wrong with selling a home made strategy guide. We have a free market.

He probably didnt even make the guide though. Probably just stole it from gamefaqs

I remember people selling PSP save games on Ebay too. I bet those bastards used my 100% complete Wipeout Pure save for profit >:(

After 9 positive feedbacks in the same minute from the same person all in private auctions, this guy's feedback tool IDanceLikeADuck got bored and started posting positive feedback like "dOn'T YoU hAtE iT wHeN pEoPLe tYpE LikE tHiS?" and "Boy, It's Really Annoying When I Capitalize Every Single Word In My Sentence."

Ask for the copy right information he has and look it up before accusing the guy of stealing. If their is proof that he stole someone else's work and copyrighted they can take him to court.

OK, this guy sucks:

case scratched up, this item was well-used, but shipped quickly
Reply by ultimate-codes: Clearly written ad used in MINT Conditions, but WORKS PERFECTLY ABUSIVE NEUTRAL

Either this guy doesn't know what "mint" means (that's my guess), or there's some sort of cheesy wordplay going on (i.e: it was used in mint condition, which is why it isn't anymore)

Whatever the case, he left the buyer negative feedback when all he got was neutral.
