Another HD scare for me...

... so, we remember my USB2 hard drive scare just a few days ago (http://forums.gaming-age.com/showthread.php?t=26684&highlight=usb2). Well that was fixed, it required some tinkering with Windows.

Just now however, I was burning a DVD off a different external hard drive, I noticed the drive made some noise (though not a generally bad noise, just an access noise), then Nero's memory buffer dropped, and the DVD was spit out as incomplete. I couldn't access the drive in Windows, and had to power it down. I powered it back up, and everything was instantly well again, but yeah, this is putting me on edge.

At least I have 282GB worth of DVD+RWs coming next week to make hard backups. (as opposed to backing up to different HDs)

I HATE IDE connectors. Fumbling around blind to reconnect my old 60GB IBM resulted in this booboo. Apparently one of the pins were previously bent, and my forcing it disconneted that little guy in the pic. Gonna need a miracle soldering job to save my data.

I bought a SATA drive to replace it, purely on the fact that I don't have to deal with those fat bulky IDE cables, and them delicate IDE pin connectors.
