(Another) Interview with X360 designers

Why does every explanation for the name "360" sound like such bullshit? Even Microsoft's explanation sounds like something my stupid roommate would say to explain a nickname he had given himself.

Not that a name is important or anything.

Because the real explanation is that they couldn't use 2 because it would be perceived as inferior so they had to come up with some bs name. They did this for win95 but it would be silly to name a console after a year as it would appear outdated eventually.

It's because 360 is a really stupid name for any console. Microsoft has no creativity and the Xbox 360 is clear sign of MS unoriginality.

On top of that they're evil and all they want is your money. :D

Every one of those prototypes looks like ass to me. Microsoft definately failed in the "sexy" department, but I'm sure the system will be awesome anyways. I just don't see how they plan on marketing this to the Japanese AGAIN with a system that bland.

If you think that's bland, how do you feel about the Revolution since its basically a rectangle?

I like the gold color (second from right); it actually seems less ostentatious than the final white design, as unintuitive as that may seem. They also make an interesting--although perhaps self-serving--point about the Revolution's design being simple and perhaps even boring, suggesting that people may "expect more character and personality out of anything in the video game world." Although, I myself think the Rev design is the best of the bunch, especially with that fan-made NES-alike paintjob...

isn't sony the only company to call their next system '*.2' ? that whole microsoft not calling it 2 because of playstation 3 is dumb....

I do prefer the chrome color over the white.

I do too, I have to admit. I'm only glad they didn't go with model number two. It looks like a bad toy from Toys 'R' Us with that cheap plastic toy color scheme. The final version is really light years beyond some of these relatively gaudy designs.

After reading a few questions I have to say Microsoft is really stupid when it comes to names and design of your console. After reading what the design team already did I have to say Microsoft chose a bad designer. The xbox 360 looks like something a few 10 year olds will do after thinking a lot, not what a good design team makes.

360 is a bad name. It's like one of the workers gave his '1337' son the option to name a console :lol

I really like the design they went with. If I could change anything though, it would be the front of the drive. I don't like the chrome, and I don't like the big xbox360 text/font.

I guess I'm the only fan of both the design and the name around here.

I don't care for the name, but I really like the look of the console, and the controller looks like a joy to hold. Can't wait.

That chrome drive is my favorite part of the unit. Too bad they didn't follow through on being able to mod the entire body of the unit.

Out of all those prototypes, they chose the best one by far.

I don't think its necessarily the best design ever, but I think its very stylised and 'next-gen' :)

I think he was actually being sarcastic to insinuate what I was trying to say in my post. He's kinda right but what the hell, I'm not required to like anything that I think looks silly.

Personally I would like a console to look more at home in the living room. If the Xbox 360 looked like this:

It would kick ass.

EDIT: Subtract the speakers ofcourse, because it's not a home theater system.

Heh, reading it again, it would appear that you're right. My sarcasm detector failed.

I think it's the best looking of all the new next gen consoles -

That's not saying I love the 360's design - I just think it's better than the other 2. :D

Don't let american companies design shit. Leave it to the Euros or Japanese. You see it in cars, and you see it in electronics. That is all. PEACE.
