Any fellow 'cruisers' out there?

Anyone else on this site like to go cruising? As in, vacationing on a cruise ship?

What are your favorite cruise lines/ships? Tips for newcomers?

I've only cruised on Carnival (3rd time next year), but from what I hear every other line is about a step up.

I went on Royal Caribbean last year and Princess this year. Princess has better food, in my opinion, but it doesn't have much in terms of activities and feels more like it's geared toward older people.

Love cruising

Fan of the Royal Caribbean line, going on the Allure in March for the second time.
I went on the Allure, too! Awesome ship. I just wish they didn't try to push diamonds on you so hard.

EDIT: I have a sneaking suspicion that these ships are secretly owned by De Beers or something. Not only do they push jewelry and diamonds on you, they all seem to push the same ones: Diamonds International, Tanzanite International, etc.

So what's the best way to shop for a cruise? I want to go on one next year with my girlfriend but idk where to look for deals and cheap prices.

You can always use a travel agent. I did that once - but to be honest, I find it easiest to just go on the cruise line's website and search there.

Example being Carnival.com / rccl.com / etc.

Might do a South American one this fall. Will have to see what the bank account looks like though.

Previously did one around the Med on Holland America. Great experience.

Thanks for the thread, now I'm getting curious about trans-pacific cruises. Looks like at least Celebrity Cruises will do it, and from first glance it looks like it'd be a bit cheaper than flying... other than the fact there's an extra month total of lost work time spent in a cabin, lol. And by trans-pacific, I mean my wife and I live in the U.S. and want to visit Japan again.

Anyone ever try a long distance journey on ship?

My parents went on a cruise my mom won in a contest back in 2007. Mom was stuck in a meeting, and Dad was bored so he just watched Flyboys over and over. But hey, they got to swim with a dolphin and visit this lime-flavored food shop in Key West.

My family likes going on them, so I go pretty much annually. We are making the switch from Carnival to either Princess or Royal Caribbean, since everyone is grown now and Carnival has gotten progressively worse.

Took a cruise through French Polynesia. Mixed bag for me. Some fun activities and beautiful islands and it was fun sitting on the deck pounding drinks. But I found a lot of my fellow passengers were pretty awful and obnoxious. And most of the ship's staff were rude and unhelpful.
I'd consider doing it again. But it would have to be for a very good price and location.

Shit I thought this was about the tight knit group of penpals that started writing each other after the infamous Tom Cruise "Cruise Club" newsletter became defunct in mid 1997, meeting each other for the first time in August of the same year for a one last get together of Cruise Club fans at the Armaggeon convention in New Zealand, per an invitation in the final newsletter. Some people even flying from the opposite end of the world to meet all the other fans, his makeup artist, and an individual from the PR firm representing Tommy. After that we've tried to all stay in touch with each other through snail mail. Even as email became the preferred method of communication we all decided there's nothing like recieving a real tangible piece of paper that someone took the time to write out by hand. Some members dropped off for unknown reasons, one tragically died, a few don't even like Tom Cruise anymore, and there's been a whole lot of life lived between all of us during the span of our continued correspondence, but the Cruisers are still at it almost 20 years later, and I'm confident the gang will still be "livin' la vida loca" as we say, in another 20 years.

Never done it. My grandfather did it every year with a different woman. He's in a home now, but he's still got it!

Pretty sure he dropped some serious cash just for a boat ride. In the tens of thousands. Never got an exact figure.

Went to both Weezer Cruises (yeah, that's real) on Carnival.

Firsr one on 2012 was incredible, second one on 2014 was... OK.

Although they were both on Carnival ships, they were organized by different companies: Sixthman and Rose Cruises, respectively. If you're looking for an event cruise, that might be something worth paying attention to.
