stuck my tongue deep inside Atlus' cookies
I'm getting my girlfriend either an iPod mini or a 20GB iPod for Xmas. I thought I would check and see if anyone here knew of any deals that were around. I don't want to spend $250-$300 if some place is $30 cheaper or gives you a freebie w/ purchase...

Apple's pretty strict with the price, the best you'll do is find it for about $5-$6 less than what Apple charges in their stores and online. You might find the odd "Buy an iPod, get a $15 iTunes gift card free!" offer, but those are rare.

well if she absolutely needs an ipod, then your absolutely going to have to pay $250-$300..no way around it.

Alright, that's fine. That's not out of my pricerange. I just wanted to ask, in case there was a way to save some money, as I need to get around to ordering it within the next couple of days.

Even more to the point -- it's simple economics. If it's selling like hotcakes at the full price...why drop it?
Oops, sorry -- I forgot that people ought to be prohibited from saying "simple economics." My bad!

She wants an iPod, and I want to get her an iPod. I didn't ask for cheaper alternatives.

Meow! That whip is making you catty.

If you're a student, you can get a small price reduction from the Apple store direct. I think Amazon.com either had a small rebate or had a deduction off the regular price as well. It was about the same price as an iPod after the student rebate.

That's the lowest you'll find it really. About $20 below retail price.
