Is it just me or is this mode hard as nails. I know how to play the game fairly well, have scored over 200K in challenge mode, unlocked around 30 skins total, completely finished puzzle mode... but I can't beat the 5th level in VS CPU mode no matter what. Hell, 9 times out of 10 I can't even beat level 4, and even level three is a major roadblock (I can win there maybe 30% of times at most)

Is there any trick, or the style of play that this mode favors? What *exactly* makes the opponent's field shrink? Making more points per scan-line than he does, making more connected blocks, keeping the play area more clear than his?

It's the girl with the weird blocks that always nails me. The ones that look like Egyptian heiroglyphs.

That's probably level 4. I think I've defeated her maybe twice or three times so far, but the vampire guy after her kills me so quickly it's not even funny.

Check the official Lumines score thread as well as the strategy thread. Versus mode has been discussed before. It just seems to get easier if you keep playing it. Enemies also seem easier if you beat them before. Other than that it's just a matter of playing fast and constantly clearing blocks without trying anything funky.

It's the one directly after Vampire guy, I think. Level 5 or 6.
