Anybody still using a CRT TV as their main TV?

Yes. The greatest. Even has an hdmi port.

Must resist temptation, I have been thinking about buying an XBR960.

Had a 32” TV we bought around 2000, that weighed a lot and had to stick out 2 feet from the wall. Few years after that, hauled it upstairs as a second TV when we bought a flat screen, ended up hurting my back (lesson learned) moving it up the stairs. Decided to get rid of it couple years ago, was just taking up space in a storage room we had upstairs, we just said “you haul it you can have it” and same day it was gone.

Honestly, upgrading is worth it just to reclaim square footage in your living room, IMO. I love wall mounting tvs and having such a bigger looking room for it.
Eh, living room space isn't a concern for me. It is huge, but on the plus side there's lots of room on top of the TV for consoles/devices.

When I take walk around the grounds of my apartment complex at night I'm shocked at the number of CRTs I see in living rooms still. It's probably more expensive in electricity to continue to use those TVs than it is to buy a nicer, lighter, better HDTV.

No, not as my main TV.

But I do I have a CRT TV still for my retro consoles. They just aren't the same on a modern HDTV.

Judging by how many I saw at the e-waste/recycling collection site last weekend, a shitload of people have/had them.

A friend's young nephew didn't believe a CRT was really a TV when he first saw one. "No it's not - TVs are flat"

Have a creaky 32 inch Panasonic CRT in the living room. Someone was giving it away and it was bigger than my existing TV so stuck that one in the bedroom. Works fine with the Wii, particularly Resident Evil 2 and 3 which look way better than in HD.

To be honest most PS3 games look terrible on it, but I don't get a lot of time to play these days anyway.

Makes me think of my nephews I don't think they have even seen a CRT TV before in person.

I have an LCD for my main TV. I made the switch in '08. I keep a CRT for the classic game systems in my game room, though. I have one of these bad boys:

About the only place you find them regularly now are bowling alleys, even better when they use incredibly shoddy 20 year old CGI sequences.

I've been practicing at a bowling center nearby, and they have the most ridiculous range of CGI sequences on those TVs. Some look like something the clippy guy made after Microsoft fired him while others look like some veggie tales reject cartoon.

The one near me has knock off Wiley E Coyote and Batman plus some goofy original animations.

Not as my main, but it is the kids main tv in their play area. 2004 I bought this beast, Panasonic 30" CRT flat front with the dual side speakers. it was my first jump into "HD" with this thing having 1 HDMI and being able to produce a 480p/1080i resolution. I was so excited when I got this and it's held up for this long without skipping a beat. Thing is a tank.

I have one just like this but no HDMI. Still going strong - bought it in 2005.

My wife insists on keeping it until it dies, then we can get a modern tv. Then I can get an actual modern gaming system as well.

Yep. A Hitachi 57" rear projection TV I bought in about 2003 I think. It's still got a nice picture and it's really solidly built. I'm not in any hurry to upgrade to 4k so I'll probably keep using it until it dies on me.

Not a great picture but I posted this in gaming a while ago.

How do you play modern games on this thing? No HDMI.

EDIT: Oh, I see, HDMI came out in late 2003. I swore it was 2005 or 6.

Yup, got one next to my computer for ye olde games. The main TV in the living room is the HDTV for movies and HD gaming.

I don't think so. I'd have to check the bottom of our storage area - we might still have an old tv/vcr combo.

I had this exact same TV, purchased around the same time, up until earlier this summer when I replaced it with a 4K one. We only used it for daytime watching though as I have a projector screen that pulls down in front of the TV that was used most of the time.

Anyway, when I wanted to replace it I tried to give it away for free but couldn't find anyone who wanted it. One guy came but didn't realize how huge it was and thought he could fit it into a station wagon. Little did he know!

I ended up dismantling it piece by piece and bringing it to the dumpster.

My parents still have a 32" Panasonic that has to be close to 20 years old now. Thing keeps on trucking, the main reason they won't get an LCD is because it won't fit in the entertainment center's square TV spot, lol. They also have an extensive VHS collection and a VHS/DVD Player in which they use the VHS part of it probably 80% of the time.

They're only in their mid 50's, my 83 year old grandmother has a 42" LCD w/ HD Cable.

It doesn't have HDMI but it does have a DVI input. I've been using a HDMI to DVI cable with no problems.
