I'm about to become one due to leaving the country, but other than reasons like that, does anyone play handhelds exclusively? I'm thinking next gen that I may stick with handheld, esp if they are online, mainly due to time and age. I'm starting to get criticised by my peers for owning all this shit :lol

That would be me. I just dont have the time to sit in front of a TV and play games anymore. The PSP makes it so much easier to give up consoles.

I might get back into consoles later, but definately not within the next 5-6 years. Which means I will miss the new next-generation. That's crazy when I think about it.

Hell, I'm leaving the country soon enough as well...but I'm not leaving with my consoles.

I love the PSP, but I'm not giving up console gaming.

It's getting to that point.

If it weren't for the quirky PS2/GC crap and the retro compilation every now and again, I probably wouldn't have a need for a modern console at all.

If I were to play handhelds I'd probably be a handheld only gamer, they're expensive enough on their own. I still enjoy games but I can't be a multiconsole person anymore, I'm just not big enough on games for it to be worth the investment. I'm not even sure when I'll end up getting one of the new consoles--if at all, seeing as how I'd probably want to get an HDTV along with them. Even a couple years down the road that's a bigger step than I can really justify (I have issues with materialism), so I may become a handheld-only gamer for the upcoming gen. Well, insofar as new games are concerned.

I'm handheld-only since the NES.

I honestly can't get used to nowadays' controllers for the GameCube, PS2 or XBox... :-/

If the PSP will have an expansive library in years to come, most likely. Not at home most of the time with work and requires dedication to sit in front of a TV to play a game these days. There are those big games once in a while where I would sacrifice everything else and play it for the entire weekend, but otherwise not anymore really.

Between the almost PS2 quality graphics and Sleep Mode its very hard to sit in one spot and play my home systems when I can be anywhere playing my PSP. I do however hope that developers make PS2 and PSP game saves compatable so I can play my Madden season at home or on the go.

The problem with handhelds is that I don't see it likely to ever have something like Ninja Gaiden on em. I mean PSP definitely has the power to have something with that kind of gameplay, but I don't think developers have yet realized handhelds can have uber-games too, or at least they won't until they start seeing an uber-marketshare in handhelds.

I'm moving in that direction. I play the handheld games I buy *a lot* more than any console games. Of course, there are some games I *need* to play and sometimes I just feel like buying things (always tech related) so I don't think I'll ever truly escape consoles.

edit: I've played Ridge Racers more than Gran Turismo 4 and I bought the Driving Force Pro for GT4. That's insane. And all the games I've spent the most time on this gen (besides Rome: Total War, a PC game) have been GBA strategy games.

In the past month, i've been pretty exclusively handheld-only. After getting my SP back from my manager, i played a lot of Wario Ware. My PSP is such a guilty pleasure. i've lost a lot of sleep since launch telling myself i'll just play one more game of Lumines. Earphones, even crappy one, improve the experience with PSP and Lumines especially so much. i'm tempted to play a game right now, but i've got a thousand things to do before going into work today.

Thing is, i don't play much outside of the house. A lot of it has to do with being in situations where i'd rather be doing something else, like reading, or as Drinky mentioned, being in a place where whipping out a game system isn't going to win you any points with management/your client/etc.

For the past year I've been pretty much handheld only, not through choice mind you.
It puts a lot of stuff into perspective and makes you realise what genres you like, as a gamer. I can't wait until I have enough time to start playing proper TV games though :D In a way, I'm relieved that FF12 has been delayed so long. When I first found out my wife was pregnant, I was concerned FF12 was going to drop at the same time as the baby, but it's worked out well now.

console gamer 4 lyfe...

i love handhelds and all but nothing can be compared to sitting back in a comfy chair and playing games on a big screen.

I have been playing handheld ALOT recently. It just seems that I end up getting stuck/lost in complicated console games (Metroid Prime 2, Ninja Gaiden, Pickmin 2) and just dont have to motivation to spend 1/2 hour just to figure out where the hell I am and were to go next.

Pick up and Play" is just so much more fun for me at this point in my gaming life...

I've drifted that way the past few years. Mainly because I haven't been very interested in the PS2/Xbox/GC, and because my favorite playstyle (2D mechanics in platformers/action games) is represented almost exclusively now on the GBA. Not to mention the GBA has been getting some of the best games of the past few years (and definitely the best of what Nintendo has to offer).

Theres no denying that the PSP's sexy sleep mode when playing a game is just what the doctored ordered cause it lets you play a game anywhere and instantly shut it down then resume later,I really like that feature. But there is no way I could only play only handhelds. Not at the current going rates the games are selling for,for 10 bucks more you can buy a console game. And yeah the games will probably go up in price once the Xbox 360 and PS3 arrive, but theyre going to house so many damn great games that its just crazy. I could see Nintendo fans possibly looking forward to handhelds more than a Nintendo console though, mainly because the 3rd party situation could be shit once again, thats why you need to expand your playing to other brands.

I'd say I'm 85% handheld ---- I can not afford the time to sit in front of a TV anymore, I can't afford the anxiety of feeling like I'm wasting my time not drawing..... Portables are an easy excuse with sleep-modes --- just crank 'em on and come back to them whenever you get a break.

Electroplankton is eating up my portable time : D no story or goal -- no having to be stuck within a linear process... jut crank it on and create shit for a little bit.

I'm the exact opposite. I have a hard time playing most handhelds, mainly because if I'm at home, I stick with a console, and if I'm out of my apartment I'm generally not gaming (unless it's at someone else's house, but again, more console gaming). I've used my GBA SP more for playing Crystal Chronicles and Four Swords than for playing GBA games.
