Ok I am not sure what triggered this tonight...but I for one am tired of DVDs being released over and over with more new features, tweaked audio/video, missing scenes etc

I mean it is to the point now where I don't buy a big name release on DVD until a year after it first comes out because I know there will be at least two more. If these releases were years apart I may be more forgiving but it seems like you can get 2-3 versions in the same year now and I can't believe people put up with this crap. I also can't believe there are some people who buy the same movie X amount of times.

Yes yes I know that if I don't want to buy the dumbed down basic DVDs I can choose to wait for extended, platinum, collectors or whatever edition that comes out 3 weeks later with a new box and a extra trailer on it.

Haha. Just head over to HomeTheaterForum.com. We rant about this shit almost every other day over there.

But yeah, it's freaking annoying, especially since most of the time, the studios don't tell you there's a SE already in the works when they release/announce the first version. Sometimes they announce both at the same time, or release both versions, like Spider-Man 2 in the SE and Superbit versions.

Worst offenders = Sony, by far. Fox is starting to catch up to them though.

Damnit! I just read on CNN that they are releasing a new "extended" edition of ROTK (which I knew was coming, but STILL!!)

At least I didn't buy that movie yet

I learned my lesson the first time from Fellowship. Now I have a kick ass FOTR EE Box set, and a crappy theatrical cut widescreen. Stupid New Line.
