Anyone else ready for next-gen?

I agree with you and Pedigree on those points. We just differ on how important those will be when it comes to creating new experiences.

Well, like anything, it'll all be up to the developers. Some will break new ground and some will be content with making the same stuff with better graphics until there's something new that they can rip. The point is that it'll allow for progress. Yay!

Free-roaming games do have the most room to grow; I hope they don't get caught in the position of trying to manage gobs of environmental data on systems that aren't designed to handle that (no hard drives!). I'd almost rather have no implementation of a feature than a halfway-realized implementation that does little more than make you wonder what could've been. *cough*fable*cough* Not saying it can't be done, but I think the trend for next generation is going to be pushing toward photorealism rather than pushing gameplay boundaries.

I was worried about that, but recent Xenon rumors give me some hope. If everything turns out ok, Xenon will have an optional HD from the start, allowing developers to take advantage of it right away. I think it'd do well enough to be considered the standard.

Plus I'm flat broke. I can't afford this crap.

I M NOT E

I feel ya on that.

RE4? It'll be way ahead of that. Look at images of Elder Scrolls 4. That'll be the some of the worst graphics of next generation, and it's leagues ahead of RE4.

I strongly doubt ES4 will be the worse of next gen. Also, I don't believe in footage of games that are shown before they unveil the next gen consoles. Remember the RS footage that was shown by ubisoft long before this gen? Looked amazing, still waiting for those graphics this gen..

The difference is, ES4 will be on the PC. Those screens are likely PC screens, and we all know the Xenon will trounce PCs for a while.

I think this gen is still far from being maxed out, as far as todays consoles go.

I don't see the point of another generation of consoles that will by & large only offer sequels to this gens games..

That's great. However, every single console successor has relied on sequels/updates of existing titles for their next system. Just because something is a sequel/update, doesn't mean that it can't offer lots of new gameplay and freshness that isn't available on current systems.

I'm just going to say this... a lot of you will be in for a rude awaking when the stuff is shown...

Saying that the crap games will look better then ES4... you got to kidding me..seriously... a crappy looking game with some good AA and stuff will still be a crap game..

Just you wait and see..

Am I ready? Not really. I'm actually hodling onto this generation for now - and probably for the rest of the year - but I'll be ready for next gen by 2006.

What I'm really ready for... is "solid information" and "actual product photos".
I won't be really hyped unless I really see something... like seeing is believing. So far, I just can't seem to gasp the concept of next-gen consoles.

It doesn't make a difference to me. I never buy systems at launch anyway, so whether they come out this year or next, I doubt I'll have the money anyway if I see something that impresses me.
