Anyone else skip this gen?

Console wise this was the first gen I skipped. Originally I had plans to get a ps5 but than they were impossible getting at launch. I than figured I'd wait for something to come out worthwhile that would get me to bite but nothing ever has. I had thoughts of getting a pro but spending 1k on old tech I just could never justify. GFN has been a saving grace for me that has gotten me through the generation, and July of last year I bought a steamdeck which has been my favourite gaming purchase in a long time.

Was anyone else in the same boat and skipped this gen?

Didn't skip out and I don't plan to for next gen and beyond.

People waited too long with the Pro when the price was $699 at the end of November 2024. So if you want a cheaper entry you'll have to get one used.

I bought a Series X cause why not, then later I built a 5070 Ti tower and picked up a Switch 2.

I still think Series X is a solid as fuck console, and Quick Resume and Play Anywhere are fantastic. I like being able to switch from ultrawide 1440p on the desktop and then just continue on upscaled 4K TV at my leisure.

Yes. Skipped consoles this generation because I didn't care for any of the exclusives that have been released. My gaming PC was too old to play anything new, so I gifted it to a kid in my neighborhood so he could play Minecraft with his friends. I got my Steam Deck with the very first batch and have been playing through my backlog on it for 99% of the time.

Skipped buying ps5, then pr0 but upgraded my pc gpu twice and cpu once instead.
Price wasnt the issue, amount of high quality exclusives was(combo of gaas initiative and porting their games to pc).
Will buy ps6 at launch unless its very weak or has some super nasty gimmick, even if its 1k $ at launch( will have to spend probably around 1,5k usd coz will buy discdrive too and in EU prices are way above the US anyways).

I actually think this gen was a great moment to jump in day-one thanks to SSDs making it in our consoles.

It is the next generation where I have serious doubts it can bring something new to the table, outside of some AI reconstruction shit that I don't want.

Haven't missed a single console generation since this one:

I don't intend to change my habits.
I started with a colecovision and venture followed by Nes, Genesis, Sega Cd, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube then random Microsoft and Nintendo consoles afterwards never Sony though. I became a casual when the Dreamcast died but good on you.

No, I did drop out though after all the bologna with the constant nickel and dime and subscription increases.

I'm glad I didn't skip it though as there were so many good games. I do wish more came to pc though.

Oh well.

No.

PS5 day 1.

Switch 2 day 1.

However I dropped out of PS5 and sold it and will be skipping next generation Playstation and be Switch only for the foreseeable future, with some PC gaming on the side.

damn.. atari 2600..my first console ever. had a single cardridge for in..something 37 in 1 games and all were meh but it was pure magic anyway, My parents probably regret ever gifting me that lol

I don't think I ever skipped a gen. Is kinda impossible with PC anyway. If you mean consoles only, I've bought a Switch 2.

No, this was actually the 1st gen where i got a console at launch (PS5). But im skipping the next gen of consoles and will keep gaming on PC only. Maybe by the time the PS6 Pro comes out they have something to lure me back in, but i doubt it seeing Sony 1st party studios direction this gen. If GT8 dont get a PC port im gonna miss the franchise though.

I also miss the times where you could wait for console price drops. Its crazy that a PS5 now is more expensive than what i paid at launch.

I didn't skip. Got both a PS5 and XSX at launch. Was fine for a while but noticed the way things where heading and jumped ship to pc. Never been more happy and regret not jumping sooner. Xbox is dead to me and Sony can fck off.

Skipped PS5 and Xbox XS, was gonna get a Switch2 but its a waste of money for the foreseeable. No interest in PS6 or whatever the hell Microsoft are doing.

Been saving for a while so I'll build a monster PC to keep me ticking over for a few years.

I concentrate myself also at the PC for many years now but i'm interested in the Switch 2 and it would be a no brainer for me especially when GTA VI would release on Switch 2 day one.

Skipped my first PS.
Fuck Nintendo.
Never bought an Xbox.
Skip Epic but take their games.

Fuck Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. Garbage cunt companies. Closed garden greedy fucks.

I love Steam and Gog double combo only now. I only go where the value is.

Fuck Nvidia as well, AMD and Intel are not on my shitlist... yet.

Nah, on the first party side of things it's pretty bad. But third party have been caring this gen so hard with amazing games.

I got a Series X about six months after launch and a PS5 a year later. Found a deal on a PS5 Pro for $600 used with a disc drive last summer. No interest in Switch 2.

Next hardware purchase for me is either a beast gaming PC or PS6 Pro.

No, I'm a console boy, so I wouldn't ever skip an entire generation. If you're on PC and you don't particularly like Sony exclusives, though, I can understand it.

Yup. First generation of console I skipped since the 8 bit days.

Felt it going that way with the PS4, and by the time the PS5 came around consoles just didn't appeal any more. They're basically PCs in a walled garden and outside of a few titles I find I can get the same experience on PC.

That never felt that way for older gen consoles, each would have its unique experience. Now consoles just feel like PCs you can't upgrade.

I don't see myself buying a console again now unless we see some drastic shift in gaming.

The only current gen console I have is the Series X, and as some have said, it is a good piece of kit, can't see why I would buy their next machine though, unless they massively expanded their B.C catalogue library, seeing as they needlessly threw in the towel when it comes to exclusives, when the PS6 is in full swing I might get a PS5 Pro..just to keep in touch with all things Forza and Halo and any new Mass Effect like games

I was skipping it til when I bought a Switch in 2023 just because I wanted to buy a Tolueno or some console to emulate games and they were out of them.

I feel like I did, had a series s and x, didn't play much outside of old games, matrix demo, cyberpunk, gta 5 and dev mode emulators sold both of them

zero interest in ps5 or switch 2. a complete nothing burger generation (and then the prices went sky high lmao) if there was ever a generation worth skipping its this one

I don't know if it counts, but I'll be following this generation from PC. Consoles dispapointed me this generation.

I bought both Series X and PS5

Sold Series X, PS5 unused since several years - so i might as well have skipped it

PC + Nintendo is what I play

I was planning to get an Xbox but then Microsoft shat the bed.

Alternatively a PS5 Pro but that turned out to be priced at a ridiculous level.

At this point it's hard to justify buying a PS5 instead of waiting for PS6. There's like a handful of current gen exclusives that I even care much about playing.

The 1980s were, by volume, a pretty bad movie decade.

But over time you get Indiana Jones, Goonies, ET, Back to the Future, Raging Bull, and at least ten more all-timers.

Never dip out. There is always good stuff out there.

Haven't skipped it, but I've played a lot fewer new games than I have in any generation of gaming. It's been a pretty fucking dismal decade for new games, even though there have been some obvious standouts. I couldn't blame someone for skipping this gen.

I game on PC only, but i dont buy many new games these days, i guess current gen games i play is only Arc Raiders.

I am however waiting for GTA VI, that's when i'll purchase a PS5.

After the famelic last generation it was easy to skip the current one. I got a Meta Quest 2 and a PC and never looked back

I made the big mistake of buying the Series X, then the PS5.

I sure won't make the same mistake twice. I don't even give a fuck about latest releases. So from now on no new consoles for me.

Anyway generations are over, next gen will be crossgen for years.
