Maaaaan.

It still gets me. I posted in some of his threads but never directly replied. But I'm still shocked cos he was a big poster here and just went so quick. I assume he was young too so damn......really make u wanna take all opportunities. RIP Gaborn.

Reminds me of 8 years back. Manz was postin on another forum and I used to follow some guy. He poste a blog sayin he was in a car accident but came out fine, only wit a headache. 2 weeks later Manz bro posted saying he passed away shortly from internal bleedin.......
I couldn't believe it. Kid was 18 and was just hyping up games and it happened. Again I ain't no him personal but it hit me hard.

Has someone passing ever shocked u manz like my example above? Someone u don't really no personally. And not a celeb.

Last time I PMed him was in August. We had some interesting conversations. I definitely looked up to him in a way. Sucks that he's passed. :(

Is it dark of me to think about how many people on forums have died and no one has really known they are gone?

Here is to 2013 being more fortunate for GAF health.

Yeah. I was just thinking about this the other day, actually, because there were no more Gaborn topics.

Every single time I see a depressingly-titled news post thread it shocks me that it's not him. :-/

There was (or is) somebody that had his old avatar as their current one (with RIP gaborn or something) and when I see it I still think it's him posting for a second.

Losing both Gaborn and Scorcho last year was just... damn. Huge losses.

yea. Its a tribute but it still makes me think its him :-(

Yup both for different reasons. Scorcho posted some stuff that got to me in the Poligaf thread when his end was near. And Gabon got me because I just figured he was taking a break and then it hit out of nowhere

Aren't you the guy who went missing for for like a year and had all of GAF panicking? What was that all about?

Wasn't there also a thread last year were a posters brother died but he ended up giving out awesome tips as a tribute as it was in his will? He made it on the news I think.

Beast has that as a memorial currently.

Its weird, I have friends that went to high school with Gaborn but never personally knew him outside of commenting on posts on gaf. Out of the shock stage now, but definitely miss him posting around here.

Still shocked? No. Still miss him and his intelligent posts, threads and discussions? Yup.

I guess it is still kind of shocking in a way. Everyone knew of the guy. I never really interacted with him much, but I still knew him. Disagreed with him a lot, but he seemed like a decent guy. Shocking that he won't be posting any of those interesting threads anymore, but it is kind of nice to know just how tight knit the community can be around here. We all touch a lot of lives on here, and it's nice to know that we do care about each other. It is kind of sad though because I wonder how many other people have slipped away over the years and may not have been notice because they weren't really big posters.

Yeah, Gaborn was out of left field. We're all mortal in the end and any of us can die at any time, but it's still weird to think about especially since we're all relatively young on this site.

There was 1 death on the IGN boards several years ago that shook me a bit. I'm ashamed that I can't really remember his user handle cleanly (initials were FF I think?), but I do remember his SSJ Gohan icon and he was a regular on the PS2CB waaaay back in the day. Good peoples. A family member eventually came to the boards and informed us that he was killed by a drunk driver. What made this especially tragic is that I remembered him talking about his young daughters on the board. I think they were toddlers at the time or younger. And yes, he sometimes posted pictures of the family too from time to time and was very happy to tell us of the birth of his youngest :(

It also makes you think how many formerly active members of this board have died over the years but we never know because their family or friends don't inform us or because we just never notice. With such a huge, world community that has been around for over a decade, I'd imagine that number to be at least dozens.

A really valuable member of the GAF community, he was indeed one of the greatest posters around here. I can only hope he passed away in peace.

Miss him on the board. He was a good and honest guy. I always tried to stick up for him when various derps were threadwhining about his threads on depressing topics or his focus on GBLT issues. We argued about stuff because he was libertarian and I am decidedly not, I think I liked him more than he liked me.

Yeah. Because before the thread about his passing, I didn't know that he had any serious health problems. While I had been following Scorcho's posts about his illness, so I could sort of mentally prepare for the terrible news in his case, even though I was always hoping for him to pull through.

There had to be more than 2 posters that died last year. The gaf user base is 90K. That's 40 thousand more than the city I live in and there are at least 10 reported deaths a day here.

Honestly I do think about him once or twice every couple weeks, for whatever reason. A part of me feels weird about it (i.e. I spend so much time on NeoGAF that I think about this "random stranger" I never met at times) but I really do miss his presence around here.

hey wow good point! heh everyone means the same thing to this place because they are members of the user base. we're not constantly making connections or interacting with those who choose to participate or anything. epic

GODDAMMIT!!!

I suppose I'm an idiot for not noticing or knowing but I just read through the entire thread with the news of him passing away. Lexi's post brought me to tears.

He was my favorite poster on this forum.

Well shit.

It's cool, his legacy lives on through the ridiculous amount of terribly depressing threads and news stories that are on the first two pages every day. It seems like even more of those types of threads are started since Gaborn died.

I remember a fairly popular user on a forum I went too died of cancer a few years ago. He was super active and well known, leader of most the boards servers for games. We all knew he had poor health and didn't have long. He made a final topic telling how his health had gone from bad to worse, and how at this point all he can hope for is to last past his moms b-day in a month.

Shortly after that topic he logged off and never logged in again. Someone close to him irl, made a topic a couple weeks later and told us he had passed away. A sad, sad day. He was only 16, and had spent most his life bed ridden.

Whenever I see a morbid thread or a thread about new species being discovered I always hope that by some miracle he's back and we were all wrong.

man i couldve been one of these people

it was sooooooo close

life is amazing and vibrant and an entitlement and the GOP wants to take it from me
