Anyone else still shocked Gaborn passed away?

I want to say that over all the years of forum posting I've lost count how many have died. If I had to take a guess, something like 50 people I've know from forums. We'll have a few more here at GAF in 2013 ...

I miss his threads, and he held great discussion.

I wish I knew how he died =/

Scorcho was a tough thread to read, too.

I actually had no idea that Gaborn passed away, but I'm truly upset to hear that. :( He was such an interesting and eloquent poster. I respected him for his genuine convictions and his ability to argue rationally amidst the sea of angry posters. Truly a shame...

RIP Gaborn <3

I miss the guy. His topics were always interesting. But that's the thing about life, people come and go. We should always remember how fortunate we are to meet each other, even if on a forum. All the odds in the universe were against it. After all, we could have all been born in different eras, and would not have known of the man who called himself Gaborn.

How did he die, if I might ask?

There was (or is) somebody that had his old avatar as their current one (with RIP gaborn or something) and when I see it I still think it's him posting for a second.

So much this :/ there is a half a second window in which i think its him after seeing the avatar

Shocked? No.

Sad? Yes.

GAF had some notable losses in 2012. We should all try to use Scorcho's bottle of anal lube to ease news' penetration of as many worlds as possible.

RIP, and lets keep this community thriving in remembrance of the lost.

I didn't know until now. Just figured he was given an extended vacation from GAF for a little bit when I noticed that he hadn't posted in a while.

Shit :(

strobogo why don't you go start a thread or something i'm not here for your gaborn bashing.

I'm not bashing Gaborn at all. Just an observation that it feels like a lot of people are trying to pick up the slack and fill the "super sad/depressing/terrible news story" hole that Gaborn left behind.

As the political wheel turned, I did wonder why he wasn't chiming in like usual. Thought he was just avoiding gaf because of how things were going. It was shocking to learn he had actually passed away.

I've avoided his and Scrocho's RIP threads. I dont' know why, but I'm not really up for reading them. Maybe one day I'll browse through them and get the details on what happened.

Still such a shame that Coppertracks keeps getting passed over in these threads.

But yes, I still find it hard to believe that just like that Gaborn is gone.

what happened to scorcho? i missed that.

sucks when you see people that post here for a long time just... stop... and not because they wanted to

Yea it was quite a shock. Although I have to agree that his depressing threads weren't my favourite and others trying to fill the void have made the place even more depressing.

I never found out but who was the old guy in his avatar?

this thread has made me realize that i never stopped to think how many people from all the forums i've visited over the years have died and no one in the forum ever found out.

this is one of the big negatives of online life. it's hard to tell when people die or just leave the forum if they're not popular.

RIP to everyone who has been a forum member and has died.

Still such a shame that Coppertracks keeps getting passed over in these threads.

What happened to Coppertracks? He may have been before my GAF era time..but who was he? (I can not remember).

As pathetic as it my seem despite never having met either scorcho or gaborn I considered both to be my friends and while we weren't close I still miss them. Sadly 2012 was the year where I had the most deaths in my social circle. Here's to hoping everyone stays healthy and safe

It is an odd thing to think that some of the posters who have moved on from the boards may have moved on from this world. With nothing to mark their passing. In this respect that he was noticed and thus missed is a tribute for real.

I was thinking about Gaborn and Scorcho and Coppertracks randomly yesterday morning. So, so sad :(

They are all missed. Rest In Peace, GAF brethren

Snaildog's suicide really bothered me a few months after it happened. Scorcho going was strange to me since we lived so close to each other, but I learned that years ago in #ga. I don't want anyone here to know when I go.

It's a damn shame when any decent person dies, but I wouldn't say I'm shocked. I don't know why I would be. But yeah, sad definitely.

Yeah, it's still shocking. I remember years ago he PMed me telling he was going to meet some gaffer in Australia or something. He was such a good guy. I miss him =(

It's such a shame he passed away. All of a sudden he was gone.

I really miss his news threads, although they were mostly friggin sad and/or depressive, also pretty weird at times.

On the note of gaffers that may have passed without us knowing, it's always sort of disturbed me when we see some suicidal/extremely depressed posters get banned. I worry somethig like that would push them over the edge sometimes. Kevincow comes to mind...

I miss Gaborn news so much :(
Gaborn was a great poster and OT was always interesting because of his threads, especially the cool nature ones he made. I didn't follow Scorcho's posts as much, but the thread regarding his health was, man, hard to read.

I don't know what Gaborn's health situation was like, but I heard it was bad. With Scorcho, I think it'd be awesome if someone made a Relay for Life OT when it comes around again so people could do something in his memory if they wanted, as well as for all the posters on GAF that have gotten or have died of cancer.

not really that shocked, no. i've recently come to terms with the decays of nature and how short our time here really is.
