What areas can the pain be in? I don't know much about them and any person experiences would be helpful.

For me it almost seems like the side of one of my balls hurt.

I pulled my groin when I was younger. It heals after about a week or two but one wrong move until then and holy suck of pain! It feels like a weird shock or something.

and for everyones amusment:

The reason I pulled them was because of a Vam Damn movie. That's right. I said it. I think it was Lionheart or Blood Sport or some shit... lol(hey it was the early 90's). I was in the park and thought I could pull off jumping in the air and catching myself on top of a couple pillars just far enough apart to land on in the splits position. I ended up landing and inverted a little. Needless to say the pain was so much that I punched my friend in the face, who happened to be standing right in front of me at the time(my reaction was completely involuntary btw). At the end of the day my friend had a bloody nose and a pair of broken glasses. I walked in a ghetto limp and quickly learned the wrath of hell when my stride was too great.. Ahh childhood. :lol :lol

I recently TORE my groin muscle in my martial arts class. If a groin pull is hell, than a tear is the ninth level of hell. I learned a new meaning of agony and pain, and now, a few months later, I have yet to fully recover from it. OUCH!

I pulled a groin muscle going up for a fastbreak layup while playing basketball at around age 25. That was the first clue that I had officially moved out of youth and into the "I need to stretch before vigorous activity" stage of my life. :D And yes, it's a searing pain, and hurts like a bitch. Took about four weeks to fully heal, but judging from some of the stories here, I guess mine wasn't as bad as it could have been.

i had that from a pinched nerve in my back. Mine was on the left side.

do a bunch of lower back streches and really stretch your spine, if its out you can hear it click back. Relief will be instant if that's the cause.

I pinched a nerve in my back when I slipped in poor posture during squats while I was working out once and I had a similar sharp pain near my groin as well. The location of the pain itself varied; at times it felt like it a nut, other times it was just the back, and other times it ran along my lower abdominal on one side near my kidney, and sometimes it shots all the way across. The entire thing lasted about a month, although part of that was attributed to my impatience two weeks in and deciding I was going to work out, pain be damned.

I'd give it a rest as much as possible by limiting what motions invokes the pain and giving it a few weeks. It should pass after that; stretching in my experience only alleviated the pain briefly.
