Anyone know how to use Zbrush?

I think I'll have better results on this board judging by the responses in other threads.

I want to learn! I see some awesome models being made using this program, and I'd love to figure out how to import my models from MAYA, make em high poly, and then export them back as normal maps. Is there any good reference material to be found? The interface really scares me and is totally different than what I'm used to with MAX and MAYA.

the basic organic modeling is no different from the subpatch systems used in most 3D packages, the actual painting on of the detail is the coolest aspect of Zbrush. Being able to manipulate those Z-Spheres keeps you system from becoming overtaxed

Go to:

CG Society

or

CG Channel

and register for their forums to ask questions, or just lurk. These are excellent resources for anyone looking to get critiques on their work, or to try and learn new techniques.

A side benefit is getting to see some absolutely phenomenal artwork posted on the forums.

Have fun! Zbrush is a great tool!

That has to be the longest avatar I've ever seen...

I have tried that website, and while it does hold a great deal of info, I'm still searching for something that can give me a good start on the program. Something like the Unreal DVD's which taught me well on how to use the Unreal Editor. Because mainly, its the interface of Zbrush thats making me go "wha?".

Try out GNOMON workshop DVDs... I'm pretty sure they have a Zbrush one...

Well I didn't mean it like that, I apologize if it came out that way.

Let me elaborate; Zbrushcentral and CGSociety would provide far better assistance than GAF. Outside of the developers and a few scant enthusiasts I'm surprised that many here would even know what Zbrush is. I would strongly recommend that you peruse the Zbrushcentral forums and check out what they have in the tutorial section, within seconds I noticed a few threads dedicated to Zbrush displacement maps in Maya. It might not be what you specifically need but it’s a start. Definitely research the DVDs I've listed, the Gnomon series is an excellent start to learning the program.

EDIT: He's not fat anymore!

Just show them the fat bunnyman and call it a night.
