I just got a greatest hits CD, and The Rising from a used CD store this week. I saw a new CD of his is out this week, anyone know how good it'll be?

you are going about this wrong way. but it's pretty good minus him talking about "throwing it in her" and "all i'm thinking about"

Don't have much to say about it, but I like the Devils and Dust single (which is also the name of the album).

just so you know, it's only available on that new DualDisc format, which has the cd on one side of a disc and a DVD on the other side. The problem with this is that to make the disc thin enough, the CD side isn't redbook standard, meaning that it might not play on all CD players. I've bought a few DualDiscs and they have all played fine for me, but I'm just letting you know.

I'll let you know as soon as I listen to it. I'm a fan of his older stuff, Nebraska being a particular favorite.

OK I'm halfway through so far, and he's got this heavy country-twang singing voice going on. I mean the songs aren't that bad, but for some reason I don't remember his voice being this twangy. It's starting to annoy me.

OK, so I've listened to the whole CD now at work. Didn't really jump out at me, but then again I can't really get into the lyrics when I'm trying to concentrate at work. The song about Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane was interesting -- or at least the parts I paid attention to.

Again, the voice -- he reminded me of Greg Keelor from Blue Rodeo alot of the time. I mean i know Bruce has had twangy songs before, like Johnny 99, but it seemed like every song had that twang in his voice.

It's ok, but I was more impressed with Robert Plant's new CD.

There's actually three versions of this Springsteen disc...a regular CD, a CD/DVD combo, and a special edition combo with even more extra stuff.

Robert Plant CD isn't out here for another month, but I really like the single. Think he's got a concert stop here in June, which I imagine will be a treat for Zepp heads.

I saw the interview with the Boss on Dateline last Friday and they played samples from a number of the new songs. Some of them sounded interesting, but this is more akin to The Ghost of Tom Joad rather then the Rising.

Plant's used his voice to good effect on the new CD. I got something out of every song (with the exception of "freedom fries" which I couldn't really get into) He's got the middle-eastern influence music thing going on again. There's a song in particular that I really liked called Tin Pan Valley where he's singing all mellow, the music is mellow, then all of a sudden it just kicks out into a rocker of a tune and Plant's going wild. Brought a tear to my eye.. :)

from http://www.brucespringsteen.net/news/:
DEVILS & DUST (COLUMBIA RECORDS) TO BE RELEASED IN DUALDISC FORMAT ON APRIL 26

Bruce Springsteen's new album, Devils & Dust (Columbia Records) will be released exclusively in DualDisc format on April 26 in the US, with the full album on CD on one side of the disc and DVD content on the other side.

The DVD side will feature the first live performances of Devils & Dust material. Filmmaker/photographer Danny Clinch captured new, acoustic renditions of "Devils & Dust," "Long Time Comin'," "Reno," All I'm Thinkin' About," and "Matamoras Banks," each with Springsteen's extensive, personal introductions. The performances were filmed in New Jersey in February 2005. The DVD side will also contain the entire album mixed in 5.1 channel surround sound and in stereo.

Springsteen closed shows from 'The Rising' tour by showing Clinch's black and white, super 8mm film of the performer singing a country blues version of "Countin' on a Miracle," a track from 'The Rising.' Danny Clinch has directed several music films, including "Ben Harper: Pleasure and Pain," and has authored two books of photography.

DualDisc releases are two-sided discs with a conventional CD side and a DVD side, allowing artists to use audio and video content on a single two-sided disc. For more information on DualDisc technology, please log on to http://www.dualdisc.com.
I haven't seen anything about other versions except for the Japanese version with extra tracks and the British version that has the CD part seperate from the DVD part.

Yeah, you're right...I was hearing on the radio the last couple weeks that they'd be two or three versions, but I guess they had the wrong info.
