Anyone played Drakengard?

I just picked it up for cheap at Fry's. Gamespot gave it a 7.0, with this quote from the review:

To execute Caim's melee attack combos, you just hammer on the X button.

Sounds like my kind of game.

Also, they were selling the SF anniversary controllers for 14.99, so I got one of those as well.

Yup, I bought two copies of it in a recent sale. One of them was supposed to be Maximo vs Army of Zin, so I had to head back into town and get it exchanged. Bah.

It's a good game to pick up dirt cheap in the sales. Not great by any stretch of the imagination, but pretty solid mediocrity if you like that sort of game. :)

Broke my DS2 playing Drakengard last week :P

Thought it was a decent enough hack 'n' slash once you get over the fugly in-game graphics, re-inforced by the polished FMV cut-scenes, and weak dragon flying levels. Played this and Forgotten Realms back to back and preferred Cavia's effort for the game mechanics despite a chasm in production values. Wouldn't have been happy with it if it cost more than the £5 ($8.50) it cost mind, this type of game is just too repetitive to hold my interest.

I played the demo a while back, and while it didn't thrill the living daylights out of me; I did appreciate the concept. So I plan on picking it up later on.

I really wish the team would have held off of the sequel until the Playstation 3. Unless they've seriously overhauled the engine, I fear the sequel will lack the intensity this game demands. I want hordes of enemies on the battle field that I can maul with my dragon. :)

The combat also lacked some of the oomph of the Dynasty Warriors games and the movement was kind of odd.

I need to finish this game. It can get pretty boring slashing the same groups of the same enemies over and over until the main guy. If that's your cup of tea then go for it. The dragon levels were fun but nowhere near PDO's gameplay. I think this is a bit below mediocre but not much.

OK I played up to the dragon level.

Graphics quite frankly are pretty bad - more fog than DW, enemies pop into view right in front of you. Character models are pretty simplistic, plus the enemies in the 1st couple levels reminded me of storm troopers from N64 Shadow of the Empire.

Combat is basically mash the X button. Not as fun as I thought it would be, heh. Throw in an occasional Y for a supermove.

Enemy AI is pretty sorry. One of the targets I was supposed to take out to finish my mission was a big hulking brute but he started running in the wrong direction so it took some of the edge off the battle.

Dragon flying levels aren't even as good as Drakan, and certainly worse than PDO.

I'll probably put it away for good now and get on with God of War.

Interesting story, nice characters, decent atmosphere... gameplay is repetitive, sure, but the missions were pretty interesting. Not a bad game at all. Looking forward to the sequel if it adds a bit of polish and variety.

The game is a fine example of mediocrity, but if you get it on the cheap it isn't too bad.

the music is really terrible and the gameplay very boring. i`ll always prefer any dynasty warriors game (2-5)
