Anyone played LoTR: 3rd Age?

It's 22$ at Fry's.

I've heard some average things about it, although GamesTM gave it a 7.

Any impressions? How conducive is it?

Boring. Battles are long, because most of your characters wiff more than a retarded baseball team. It's pretty straight-forward, like FFX. Only FFX is better.

$5 or bust, and even I wouldn't buy it then.

Buy at your own risk. There are much better RPGs out there to choose from at this point.

Most of what he said, and I usually try to play all RPGs... but 3rd Age is just SO boring... and building special attacks takes f'n FOREVER.

If you don't put points into Dex you do miss A LOT.
Other then that, it is a pretty subpar FF Clone. Only play it if you have exausted every other RPG out there.

I agree with everyone in this thread. I love RPGs, and I usually finish even the ones I don't like (even Shadow Madness!). But I can't finish this game. It's just so dull.

They took all the crappy bits of FF and decided that's what was cool about FF and put it into this game.

agreed - LOTR:3A uses a really bad copies battlesystem. it is not balanced and to much luck orientated.

I loved the first chapter.

The remaining 90% of the game is ABSOLUTELY FUCKING ATROCIOUS however. Stay the HELL away.

Its really just a sloppy FFX clone. And the game is really fucking sloppy.
I mean, when you start a new battle, your hint bar shows the last hint from the previous battle. There's a whole bunch of other obvious shit that could have easily been fixed if they gave two shits.
I've played RPGs that I hated to completion, but this game is just really bad.

My thoughts exactly !
Plus : they added thinly veiled lookalikes of the important LotR characters in the game as the playable characters, except the PCs are really just boring non-personalities !
Also : the whole story is told to you by the (excellently voice-acted) Gandalf, which is ok, but the game recylces a couple of hours of footage from the movies that you're likely to have seen a dozen times before...

It tries to appeal to FFX and LotR fans, but it's more likely to annoy that target audience more than anything.

Do you remember the scene in LOTR where Gandalf faced the Balrog alone, except for a human warrior, a female elven mage and a grumpy dwarf?

No?

Then don't buy this game.

Unless you're tempted to buy it not for its LOTR-ness, but for its qualities as an RPG, of course.

If that's the case, then how do you feel about a game where one of the early spells you get will, when the character it is cast on dies, ressurect them, give them full health and magic, and then give them the next turn? So that by casting it on yourself you can never lose the game? Does that sound balanced and well thought out to you?

No?

Then don't buy this game.

Unless you're tempted to buy it for someone you hate. In which case, don't do it. Whatever they did, it doesn't deserve that.

Unless, of course, you're talking about the GBA game which is an entirely different game altogether.

And also sucks.
