I'm taking my little bro to see it in a couple hours or so.

With 95% on RT, I'm hoping for another stellar flick from the filmmaker who brought us the splendiferous Elf and Zathura (super under-appreciated movie BTW).

(BTW, here's the thread specifically about reviews: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1204028. I imagine some have already posted their own impressions of the film in there, but I thought a designated impressions thread might be warranted also.)

Can't *wait* to hear that amazing Bear Necessities theme in the movie!

We saw it yesterday and it is my favorite of the live action Disney animated films so far. I thought every cast member did great in their roles especially Bill Murray and Christopher Walken.

That's wonderful to hear. What are the other live action Disney films besides Cinderella? (That one was supposed to be a snoozefest, right?)

Let's see. 101 Dalmatians. Malificent. Cinderella. Alice in Wonderland. Cinderella was average, very safe, and boring. Didn't help that everybody saw the into the woods rendition of Cinderella right before the movie came out.

Cinderella was good or at least decent. It did some new things with the characters, at least. Was directed by Kenneth Branagh so he is competent enough.

The other two are Maleficent which is completely terrible, and the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland of which I don't remember enough to know if it was better than Cinderella, but it was for sure better than Maleficent.

The Jungle Book is the best of these films, unless I'm forgetting something (and no, I'm not counting 101 Dalmatians with Jeff Daniels and Glenn Close).

Yep, planning to go today evening or sometime tomorrow. Been excited for it since I first saw the trailer. Never really understood the immediate looksbad/bomba talk around it after the first trailer.

Oh. Thank you! I never thought of 101 Dalmatians since it's been so long since it premiered. We really couldn't get into Malificent or Alice. Huh, there are several of these and I didn't remember any, lol. :)

Awesome. Thank you for the info. We found the style of Burton's AIW to be not at all our cup of tea. We much preferred Big Eyes a year or so later. That was his most impressive and interesting film in ages we thought. Glad to know about Cinderella's decent quality and glad to hear we didn't miss anything giving up on Maleficent very early on in the movie.

I don't much remember live 101D at all, how is it? I think my wife said seeing the real-life doggies treated poorly was too disturbing.

I wanted to bring my little sister (she is 6), but I've heard it might be a little bit too scary (even though she is not easily scared) and she didn't think much of the trailers. On top of that there are only 3D showings at my local theater, which I hate. I'll still check it out though, just not in the cinema.

When is Frozen 2 out? That she'll love, sure of it.

Just watched it. It was pretty ok I guess. Nothing special about it. Christopher Walken was good. 3D sucked so much ass as usual waiting for the 3D trend to end so movies are bright and clear again.

I watched it last weekend and generally enjoyed it. It looks really good, voice cast is on point and it's pretty well paced. I do have my complaints but I'd still say is a solid 8/10.

Watched it last night. The CG was amazing. Crazy that the kid had to act against literally no one the entire time. It was a fun movie, but I still thought the voices were a bit disconnected from the animals on screen. It sounded like people in a sound booth and not animals.

The finale is also kind of a clusterfuck on conveniences that kind of falls apart if you think about it for more than a minute.

Also I felt like the only reason the songs (more so the second and not the first as much) were only in there because it's a remake of another movie. I.e. If you treat it as a standalone it's very fucking weird and forced.

Overall I'd still say it's a nice 7 or 8 out of 10, especially for the visuals.

I'd definitely like to see it. I'm just wondering if I should pay extra to do the IMAX 3D thing or just save some cash and do a regular 2D showing.

There were several scenes I could see really young kids getting freaked out over, I probably would have as a kid.
Otherwise, it was a fantastic movie. Highly recommend!

Saw it Thursday with my wife. I barley remember the cartoon but she loves it, and loved this adaptation. I thought it was fun, and some of the CG was legit amazing work. Bill Murray is on point as usual, and really all the voice work was IMO. Good stuff.

Saw it. Quite enjoyed it.

I wasn't a fan of the ending change, it reeked of "DURR MAN IS EVIL SO LIVE WITH THE ANIMALS" greenwashing, but it made sense given where they were going with the story.

Bill Murray as Baloo stole the show. No question.

Loved the cowbell mixed within King Louie's junk. Cute reference.

Also, anyone else notice the meerkat running up next to the warthog while all the animals were standing around near the end?

That ending makes sense
since they want to adapt more of the Kipling stuff for a sequel, and they have to give a reason for why the movie didn't end up like the old one where Mowgli left, quite justifiably.

Just saw it with my wife and our six year old, we all thought it was awesome. I was worried it'd be a bit too mature for our kid, especially since he gets scared easily when watching movies, but while he tensed up a couple of times, I never saw him cover his eyes. The voice casting all around was stellar, with the exception of Scarlet Johanson. Her as Kaa just didn't work at all for me.

Saw it tonight. Thought it was great. The animation and cinematography are beautiful, especially the work they did on Baloo and King Louie. Thought the ending was a little abrupt, but overall a great movie.

Going with my mom tonight since she's the only other disney fan in the family. I hope the Civil War trailer plays so she can freak out when Spiderman shows up, she still doesn't know.

Does this movie have anything to say or any substance or is just a technically marvelous The Jungle Book story?

It definitely is more of a technical achievement than story-driven, honestly the story is kind of weak. But the fact that it was all shot using sets and CG is mind-blowing as I genuinely could not tell they were never on location, nor that any of the animals weren't real. There was a few iffy moments
Bagheera's face looked rather fake on occasion
but overall it was visually stunning.

Going to see it tonight, I was wary of it being all style no substance and rolled my eyes a bit when I heard about it, reminded me of Maleficent, but word of mouth has been positive

It is definitely more style than substance but I enjoyed it for what it was. Visuals were great.

Holy shit that tune is dope. I'm definitely watching it with my mother, as she loves the original and liked the trailer a lot. I think I'll wait until the next weekend, though, because I'm broke from getting Dark Souls III earlier this week.

ya, went and saw it last weekend and adored it. i felt like a little kid watching it, just wide-eyed and jaw agape the entire time. i feel like it was one of few films i've seen where the 3D actually worked to enhance the experience, too.

scarlett johansson as kaa wasn't too great tho, didn't dig that part but luckily it was only like 5 minutes long. everyone else was fucking perfect

Saw it earlier, really liked it.
I liked the ending change myself, the animated always made me sad.
The change to King Louie was weird though.
Yeah, ok Orangutans don't live in India, but Giganthopithecus haven't exactly been around for a while.
But I liked him more overall, definitely felt more intimidating than Shere Khan.

Saw it yesterday. Didn't care for the finale, but there is some great stuff otherwise. The animals look great, the voice cast is excellent, it's pretty damn funny.

Just got out of an Imax3d showing and that was a great movie. Seeing the first trailer, Bill Murray was my only worry, but he is so good, and the rest of the cast is just as good, Ben Kingsley and Idris especially. My only complaint is the tone is so down to earth, the songs feel awkward on delivery, though enjoyable when they get going. But it really feels like they really scanned the script for breaks to be able to jam in a musical number. The one song i wished for the most to see in 3d, trust in me, isn't even in the actual movie, but the scene plays well without it. Which brings me to the best part of the film, the credit sequences. I don't think there will be a better opening or closing title sequence this year than jungle book, especially in their use of 3d, worth the premium ticket for that alone. Stay for a really good trust in me rendition with a slightly psychedelic presentation and a better version of i wanna be like you.

Go see this movie! Imax if you can, but 3d is a must.
