Anyone watching - The Stand?

I’m seven episodes in so will finish this but what the hell?

Everything just feels so poorly written compared to the mini-series from 1994.

The mini-series was 6 hours in total while this is already clocking over 7 hours and I feel like we’re missing at least a good 4 hours of backstory. Everything from character arcs to even the flu itself was neglected in detail.

The only person with an actual story arc is Harold which without going into spoiler territory is just a bizarre pick of all people.

It’s awful, I’ll finish it as I’m interested to see the new ending (the original ending is shit) but never again.

Actually been meaning to watch this since I loved the book, so thanks for the reminder

Sucks that it's not good though

I started watching it but beyond the decent selection of Actors the whole story is a mess. It's so fundamentally different than the book and the OG miniseries that it's really hard to care, I'm not sure I'll actually finish it (4 episodes in).
Sometimes I question the sanity of the people producing this shit, why change a formula that works, I would understand if the story itself had some serious plot holes or strange/goofy sidelines but the original story is concise, interesting and easy to follow.. In this they jump forward/backward in time ruining any sense of suspense or drama.. It's a terrible decision.

Plus, I hate Whoopi Goldberg, which is like shit icing on the shitty cake

I’d like to hear a review from someone who didn’t read the book. I get annoyed because everyone always reviews it in comparison. How is it as a stand alone show

I dropped the show after 2 episodes because of the incredibly stupid idea of jumping between timelines. Maybe I'd watch if they released a 'director's cut' version with the scenes in chronological order.

Not to mention there's a huge change for the worse with Harold's character. I guess he couldn't be fat shamed in today's world so they made him a normal weight guy. The casting itself is also all over the place from what I've seen, Rita was too hot, Frannie not hot enough tbh, Whoopi still can't act and Amber Heard should've been recasted and had her scenes reshot. Only Stu and Randall seem okay from the main characters.

Even if you compare it to the 94 mini series you’ll see where it falls down literally everywhere.

And the mini-series is on YouTube and can be watched for free. (Highly recommended)

What's wrong with King?
He's spent too much time in sci-fi fantasy worlds and when the world actually turned into a sci-fi fantasy world around the last decade his mind can't seem to figure out what's right or wrong, up or down, left or right and where he fits. Constantly contradicting himself and just saying shit cause he thinks it's what people want to hear or at least the most people want to hear. Maybe he was always like this but i doubt it cause it's as if he just started paying attention this last half decade, it's like watching a teenage coma patient wake up to a world in their middle age and try to figure it out.

Fuck do I know, though, I only see his shit in twitter blurbs, not the best lens to view someone through.

I was interested, but knew nothing about it. Enjoyed the 94 miniseries, though was super corny in bits and had that made for TV flavor. Have only read a bit of the book (early outbreak still) so not sure how they compare really. Right after watching I discussed it with a friend who read had read the book and they said it was similar in the broad sense. If that's the case its like other king novels, excellent story and deep characters that deliver virtually no pay off in the end.

So if this show seems worse, I am gonna pass and spend the time trying work on the book. Though not surprised. I felt the 90s miniseries for IT was way better than the two recent films. IT I have read twice and love (minus the weakass ending).

Last time they attempted to adapt this it was shit (1994 miniseries). Don't see why we expected better this time.

Oh they're doing it again? Wild.. loved that book, and it's been long enough for me to read it again with enough forgotten for it to be interesting... No time to look it up but I'm glad Stephen is still getting reskeptah

Sacha Baron Cohen Trump GIF by Stan.

The 1990s miniseries was pretty faithful to how I felt about the book - it started out great, but it got worse with the good versus evil plot which led to a very disappointing ending. Obviously it had a small budget, but it wasn't awful if you'll look past that.

Finished it now.
It doesn’t get better, although they did drop the flip-flopping timelines around the 4th or so episode.

The ending change.
Was awful, I thought they were going to remove the god killing Randall part but instead they kept that and tacked on a boring waste of time additional hour after the big bang.
