Ape Escape PS3 in development?

top_logo.jpg

Sony Computer Entertainment has taken out an ad in the latest issue of Famitsu soliciting staff to work with its "Sarugetchu" production team. Sarugetchu is the Japanese name for the Ape Escape series.

The ad seeks staff for a number of positions, including programmers, designers, and even high level staff such as director and assistant producer. The programmer listing is the most telling, as it asks for applicants to be familiar with physics simulation, movement simulation, shader programming, algorithms, general tool development and general game programming. Perhaps we're looking at a next generation version of Ape Escape?

Typical of these solicitation advertisements, the Sarugetchu team ad doesn't mention a specific game. The ad has a visual depicting a progression of apes, each more manlike than the last. The first ape holds a copy of the original Ape Escape (Sarugetchu), with the second and third ones holding copies of, respectively, Ape Escape 2 (Sarugetchu 2) and Ape Escape 3 (Sarugetchu 3). The fourth ape is actually Ape Escape's Piposaru, holding a box containing a question mark and the text "next." The progression seems to suggest a new numbered entry in the series rather than a spin-off.

With staff now being assembled, it seems that the resulting game is still a ways off. However, don't be surprised if a new Ape Escape gets announced for the PS3 early on.

or maybe a new series by the Ape Escape team. Ape Escape 1 rocked! I haven't played AE2 or AE3 but these guys are great. Good news!

Ape Escape 3 is pretty good, i'd reccomend playing it also. I neither like or dislike AE2.

yeah I am going to buy Ape Escape III next month. I just got Jak II today and I love Jak series more than AE so first I will beat it then I will go out and get AE3.

I just hope it's a true Ape Escape 4, as opposed to something that makes me want to smash my balls in like Academy.

IMO Jak 2 is the best in the series. Hell, we need a new Jak on PS3 too! :D

Man Jak III was so fucking awesome. The gameplay ruled, the graphics ruled, the story was great, the characters were awesome (especially Pecker and Daxter). Just a fantastic all rounder package!

By watching the ending I got the impressions that Jak will be taking on a few missions for the precursors. I hope they make a new Jak game for PS3.

Just made my day.

Ape Escape 4, Day 1, make it happen Sony!

I'd rather not day 1, so that there's a chance the development team has enough time to make the game not be a piece of shit.

Ape Escpape is one of the most underrated platform games ever. Chasing and capturing monkeys is a weird concept, but it's a fun thing to do. IMO

I'm now playing AE3. Great game.

There had better be some major changes to the next game if they want me to buy it. Monkeys make everything better, but even monkeys get boring after doing the same thing three times. Time to shake things up.

No QFT!

I think Ape Escape 2 and 3 are getting picked on far too much. So yes, they weren't masterpieces like Ape Escape was with innovation, but this is one of the least broken control setup. Changing it would be a sabatoge of justice. I thought Ape Escape 2 was just as amazing as Ape Escape, because it was just as fun.

If you mean that they should do new weapons and stuff...

well, okay, QFT. Imagine how cool it'd be to pilot an RC plane.

Ape Escape team's never let us down in the main series, so I doubt that'd happen.

Plus, I believe AE1 was made in a pretty small timeframe after Sony started showing the DS controller. And, I'll assume that making "cartoony" visuals is a bit less demanding and time consuming than the photo realistic angle.

And, c'mon, it's not like we're expecting Spring '06 or anything.

And, Link, nope.

Yeah, you'd think they'd learn by now, especially with Spectre... Bullet to the head, or for the weak at heart, put him to sleep.

AE needs a new villain, anyways, even though I have a feeling that if he was replaced it'd turn out bad.

Freaking how many times are these apes going to escape? You'd think we'd have them under control by now.
You'd also think the professor would know better than to continue making monkey helmets and putting them on the heads of monkeys.

These helmets make the monkeys evil! For the sake of the human race, stop making them!

Nice to see some Ape Escape fans getting out of their manholes!

Are are you doing guys with your Ape Escape 3 ?

You didn't buy it yet? Go get it now basturd.

AE3 is my first Ape Escape game, and I'm lovin it!

It's one of the finest-controlling games I ever played, and it's generally a really fun platform game. catching those filthy apes is really fun, and the gadgets and transformations really keep things fresh.
The graphics are surpsingly good as well, everything just looks really smooth.

Can't wait for 4!
